50-100 all together right?

i usually get to about 50 plugins all together in the project before i start raping my cpu, like 5+ plugins per audio track, plus some on group tracks and stuff. thats when i start bouncing.

awsomeness cant wait to start trying offline processing tho.

can you explain more about the stutter edits? i thought those were done just cutting up the sample in 32's or 64's?

you can essentially go back to any point in time as easily as in Photoshop. Not so easy if you've bounced 10 times and didn't save all of the plugin settings you originally used.

ha ive never bounced a bounced audio. maybe my cpu is just so leet i dont need to? or maybe i just dont push it to the limit like you do. gotta admit ive never found 8 inserts limiting yet.

also, when i start bouncing (when my cpu is maxed out) i always save as, save the project with bounced files as a different name, just incase so i can go back, change something and bounce again. god my workflow sounds so ineffecient typed out.

No, I mean 50-100 on the additional processing. That doesn't include EQ, filters, reverbs, compressors, etc., or anything that's really part of the track at large. And very often these one-off edits are done with reverbs or delays, which would be adding significant load - hence my saying, it'd be ridiculous to load them all up as inserts or even sends. It may sound like an exaggeration, but when you've done 20 or 30 edits, it's not really anything excessive per edit.

Your workflow doesn't really make sense to me, I can't imagine why you'd need to save a different track with the bounced versions. If you've bounced a track, just turn off the instrument and it won't use any CPU. You need to make a change, turn it back on and bounce the part you changed. And if you're bouncing a series of audio edits into an aggregate, just keep an extra audio scratch track (I usually have a few of those).

From time to time I actually will bounce and "re-bounce" because, for example, if your audio is in 5 chunks, and you want to apply a reverb or delay, you have to bounce it into one clip or the result will be choppy.

Stutter edits are... in the loosest sense, yes, cutting into 1/32 or 1/64 or even 1/128 (the latter would be more of a glitch). But it's a pretty crappy edit if that's all you do. There's all sorts of pre- and post-processing that goes into a decent edit: filters, EQ, reverb, delay, distortion, phaser, flanger, ringmod, pitch shifts, panning edits, stereo flips, etc. And the settings for each is going to be different for each edit because the source material isn't the same. Doing this without in-place editing would probably drive a person insane.

Anyway, that's all way off topic so I won't delve into it any further. Suffice it to say that in-place editing with undo history has saved my life a number of times and saved more hours than I can count.

hmm i always thought just turning off the vst plugs didn't do it, like their still taking up ram or something. infact im pretty sure thats how it is, cause ive had my cpu peaking and i HAVE to unload the plugin to make the cracks&pops go away, thats why i save project as a different name so i can delete the original audio track, but still have an old version with the original.

hmm guess i havent heard enough music with stutter edits. what genre are they popular in? ive never heard a stutter edit with distortion or phaser, they usually just sound like the original vocal with the begining of a word or someting in 32ths or 64ths
