I'm actually amazed that I got through the "raves" of the early 1990s in one piece, with all the illegal/dangerous stuff that went on. Pulling 3 phase electric power from multiple sources and long lengths of hose to get cooling water, for the lasers, sound and lights.

...and quickly throwing equipment into vans and running away, when the police showed up.

...and getting paid.

When I was at AVB a few weeks ago I was having a decent conversation with this guy until he asked the "So when's the last time you been to a rave?" I looked at him like huh?! Who the fuck does to raves or do they even exist anymore. Needless to say that conversation didn't go much further.

The last 'rave' I remember going to (and details are fuzzy as it is) It was when i was first getting into the scene (I think it was around 94 or 95). It was apparently the last better days rave. It was at the masonic temple on Yonge st.

do I remember who was spinning, no. I just remember thinking that I've stumbled upon something that I really liked. Too bad it was their last production.

The last event I went to that didn't have a purchased venue was one in philadelphia that was held right outside the city in a field by the river... Two different stages playing all sorts of EDM, crazy kids grooving with visors and glowsticks like mad, and free beer. Police choppers occasionally overhead but they didn't seem to think much of it, party went on until about 8 am.

raves are dead.. although i would love to go somewere that's not club and hear someone good spin
