Ok as I see it, here in the states trance in general has just started to take hold. All the non-US people here have to understand that the US invented and loves house music..For a while I was into the house music scene because there was no alternative, but I got sick of listening to fired up by funky green dogs and in general house music is very played out, although the majority of clubs especially in New York are playing House music. This scene is starting to change and progressive house is taking hold..along with it trance, I personally feel that trance is the most sophisticated form of techno and is loosely based on classical music, along with some pop,new wave and ambient elements, which is why trance is so big in the UK. Personally I never enjoyed pure techno, I look at Trance as the highest form of techno, so I can't agree with the people here saying that the future of trance is back to techno, I think that's stepping down a few notches. Trance is a progressive music format which means its always changing back and forth but even better higher and higher, so as we keep changing, we also keep refining, that's why we see so many offshoots of trance because people are constantly experimenting. I doubt uplifting will ever completely fade away because Trance by its very nature is good feelings and friends and the music only serves to enhance that feeling. Progressive will always combine the elements of techno and house with classical thus progressive House/Trance, I personally enjoy progressive especially at clubs because it is more danceable, but at the same time there are times I like to just chill and listen to quality trance, I personally like the uplifting and epic forms of trance, but these too are progressive because anything that moves trance forward, by definition is progressive. So unlike some people in this thread I would hope that trance keeps moving upward and not regressing back to basic techno or house elements. I'm not too worried because we have DJ's and producers like Tiesto, Armin,PVD,and Corsten. These guys keep refining trance. I think what makes the future of trance so bright is the fact that we have many different remixers and we know what to expect from each one. The great thing about the variety of trance is that songs which were not originally one type of trance can be made into a completely different genre, in other words a song like safri duo-played alive was never meant to be a pure trance song, but once airscape got ahold of it suddenly it became an a progressive/uplifting tune, anyway guys/girls as long as we have a broad range of remixers we will always have different varieties of the same song to suit different people. I don't think any specific type will fade away except for maybe the trendy garbage and shite like happy hardcore. trance appeals to a broad range of electronica fans because with it comes the ability to choose, and having choices should ensure that Trance will stay around for years to come.

I'm just trying to show that there are so many possibilities with all the different remixers that we shouldn't be worried, we should start worrying when all the remixers stop remixing, at that point trance will become stagnant and will no longer progress...

Well, that's just my opinion. But the ridiculous BPM's and the stupid shouting really gives me a headache sand I can;t stand it!

I agree with the thing u said about it going back to techno, the only techno stuff i like is what i would call hybrid techno, u know techno-trance or something. Mauro Picotto style...

As for giving one artist as having the sound of the future, i would say the offspring of Sandra Collins & James Holden (damn he'd be lucky to get in a position to haff offspring with her...)

Sandra Collins: she usually plays/makes highly emotional prog trance, combined with funky beats and generally amazing little bits and bobs that stab at you on the dance floor (if u heard her play at gatecrasher you would know exactly what i mean)

James Holden: This dude combines tight, pounding, driving basslines with the art of pushing all the right buttons at all the right times. All i need to say about this geezer is listen to Mad Dogz - Better Make Room (James Holden Remix) if u havent already, it would explain everything i want to say here that i cant put into words.

Epic Trance (Tiesto) is dying. Tiesto has a limited track selection. I LOVE him but u must realize he plays the same choons in all his sets.

There is more progressive house being made than trance...& more cheesy than good. Even PVD the King of Trance is playing less & less epic trance & more progressive house. Pvd's style has evolved, he's adapted to today's sound.
The future sound is prog trance, tech house & break beats. U.K HH isn't big in NYC. We have NY HH cheese. Boris & Tony Draper. Twilo is all bout progressive muzik, Picotto is the only guest that plays HH.

I would have to disagree with u twilo goddess, epic trance is far from over, in fact i believe that rank1 and tiesto have made epic trance a major genre. I totally agree that NY is all about HH cheese, variety is not our strong point. I believe that epic trance has gained in popularity. To say tiesto is fading is definitely not true, i had a friend who went to Limelight and saw him as well as another friend who saw him in san diego, both said it was packed although i think he played a better set in Cali. Fact of the matter is, Tiesto is far from over(to quote the name of a song). In fact is the one who is pushing the evolution of trance. Another point is a couple years ago everyone had written trance off to die.....now we know that was premature and if anything is gaining in popularity. You will always have a few different genres of trance because different people like the same tunes presented in different ways. For some reason everyone thinks that a certain type of music music be replaced by another and that the two can't coincide...thats where my problem lies. Just look at rock...many different genres coexist with each other and thats only becuase of one thing.....listeners and a large number of them, so instead of everyone frowning on the fact that trance is getting commercial we should be happy becuase with more people comes a larger selection...

I didn't say Tiesto was fading. Limelight was extremely packed b/c it was Tiesto's first NYC appearance. I was a lil disappointed w/Tiesto. He played old tracks & then encored w/Silence. Granted it's his remix, it's 7 months old, beyond played out & on every 1 of his sets in 00 & trance compliation.

Look at what's being produced. 3 months into the new year, there hasn't been so many epic trance records. Everything is progressive, deep, funky, not as fast & uplifting (ie: James Holden).

Point well taken Twilo goddeess but at the same time you have to remember that people in the US have no clue about trance, in fact if u have ever listened to 92.7 on monday night(they play progessive and trance) you would see that nobody knows about old trance so everyone thinks songs like madagascar are new, but it really doesn't matter becuase to the people in NY it might as well be new because they have never heard it before because NY classically is not into progressive music, but as i said that's changing. I would bet you that over half the people at Limelight couldn't tell the difference between the new and old trance songs...sorry but true...
