i wasn't aware that yamaha or thx was responsible for any 10-channel discrete audio format or that there was any media in existance encoded in 9.1 channels of sound. google: digital signal processing. yamaha is famous for their dsp programs and for good reason, but their matrixing of signals doesn't produce extra channels. i can matrix 300 speakers to one stereo source, that doesn't make it 299.1 surround sound. what i'm trying to explain to you is that 9.1 is a marketing gimmick, and you're better off not referring to it because it's false terminology. the truth is dts-es is the most advanced consumer-level surround format at 6.1 channels, and overall 5.1 is better than anything else. that's why the only 7.1 format, sony's sdds, still has over 90% of its material encoded in 5.1. yahamas are nice receivers though, i've owned a couple myself. none were thx'd though

I know but it just sounds so damn cool. I know all the tech mumbo jumbo you speak of, I really wish they'd use DTS-ES 6.1 more often. Regardless, I know have to go buy a new system that will decode Dolby Digital plus/HD and Dts HD for my HD Dvd collection. Fucking annoying if you tell me.

In any case, 24 was awesome last night.

never buy 1st year technology! price is insanely inflated and technology is often buggy. i wouldn't jump on the 7.1-discrete bandwagon until it becomes the standard. i don't even see that being th case in the forseeable future. dts-es isn't flying because 5.1 is the best format for home theater. unless you're filling a 10,000sqft room, extra channels do not add anything but distortion.

i caught the first night of 24 but my tivo missed the second night. now i have to dl it

DL it if you want but they released first 4 episodes of this season on DVD today. 24 was badass and they are starting off on another great season as well. The Shield is badass two except now that I have a insane job that makes me work 630-5 M-F, i cant make it all the way to 11pm to watch the whole episode. Vic is a fuckin monster badass like Jack!
