Both require some concentration to appreciate, and that's where the similarity ends.
Trance does have some structural similarity to "minimalist classical," but if we're talking about stuff like Beethoven or Mozart, then...no, not similar at all. |
Of course! I'm not saying Trance is similar to Classic music. I'm just saying the way it's listened is similar.

I don't think I can give you a good answer as to why I love it in the first place, but the reason I love it as much as I do is because it lends itself to so many contexts. It works for me in a club, on my speakers or on my headphones, it works when I want to lose my mind and chill, it works when I want something inspirational to write to, it works when I go for a walk and want to set the visuals to some music and of course it works on the dancefloor. It works when I want something summery, something wintery, something lush, something stripped down, something soft, something aggressive. I like it because it can go with techno or breaks or house or ambient[/B]. I like it because I can find a trance track to go with just about any context, and I can't yet do that with any other genre. |
Something like this, and Indeed a very good post there System-J. Sums up why I really listen to trance

I love Trance because...well, it's enticing. The sweet harmonies and melodies of the synthasizer(sp?), sometimes enchanting vocals, and just the mood it can put you in. It can be very elegant. It's not quite up there with Classical music in terms of musical quality, but it's light years ahead of rap. (what with the lyrics mostly containing a long string of obscenities or just someone trying to "sing", but that's another topic for another day).
Trance can make a connection with what some might feel to be your "soul". It can sound beautiful, or just plain awesome. It's a very unappreciated genre of music. But I love it anyways.

That's like comparing an action movie and a drama and saying the action movie is light years head in terms of action. Some deep thought there i gotta tell you.

Hmmm, i'm inclined to disagree. Rap sucks. Seriously. It's a bunch of no talent thugs that either go on "singing" about how great they are, how many bitches they got, or just throwing out how they will rape your mom. No ACTUAL musical inclination there. Seriously, I think Beethoven rolls in his grave when a rap "artist" wins an award for "Best album of the year". It's an insult to music, and I think it's driving our society into a downward spiral where the common man only becomes a loud, blabbering idiot. Seriously, "talking to a beat" and throwing out a long slew of obscenities does NOT make you a "musical artist". Rap is really the lowest form of music.
