Yeah, it might have no labelling to it beyond the track name and it might be the track that producer first revealed to the world and what made it popular, but it's not the ORIGINAL MIX of the track that the producer completed.

Example? Motorcycle - As the Rush Comes. It originally had very different music. Believed it was only ever played in one G&D mix (their mix for Global DJ Broadcast on 02-15-2003). But it was never released. They changed the music in the track before the world even got to know the song and the track with that music exploded and was simply labelled "Motorcycle - As the Ruch Comes" ...

Here's a sample of Motorcycle - As the Rush Comes (Original Mix) I cropped out of that set and compressed all to hell!

Thanks for the sample, I never heard that version before.

You pick up this working girl who's hooked on smack, who hussles and scores. "That's all I do" she says, she says "Ten bucks for head, fifteen for half-and-half". She says "Three hits a day at 35 per", you say "That's seven tricks a day at least", but she says "Sometimes I get lucky. Once this guy gives me a bill-and-half just to eat me, only time I ever came".
You figure you can save her. You sell your color tv, that keeps her off the streets a whole day. You hawk your typewriter for one jolt. Then your shotgun, your watch. A week later you say "Listen I'm a little short", but she says "No scratch, no snatch". You say "Look it is better to give", but she says "Beat off creep".
One night they spot you on the street in your skibbies trying to sell your shoes. You tell them who you are, but they nail you. Then she happens by and she says "Christ you look fucked", she says "Hang tough!". But you don't say anything, you just think "what a bum rap for a nice, sensitive guy like me".

Motorcycle is a pretty crap example.

The 'version' everyone knows is the "G&D Sweeping Strings Mix"... so by that name alone, people should be able to deduce its not the original mix.

You are right but people often don't think that much.. many still think that is the original version because they have never heard of the original.

In some cases Original Mix can also be a bit misleading, especially if one wants to be picky.. like with Sonorous - Glass Garden. The version labeled as Original Mix in most releases in 2000-2001 isn't actually the truly original version of the track but a clubby rework; the real Original Mix is a 5-minute downtempo piece which was released on Sonorous' "Did You Ever Dream?" EP in 1999.

I think Original Mix is occasionally a necessary tag. An example would be Song of Life by Leftfield. The version that appears on Leftism is the version most people know, and it's not labelled with anything else so people assume it's the original. Actually, it's quite significantly different from the actual Original Mix, but who is going to put Album Version or Original Mix after every track on the album notes?

But I believe there is also a version out there that's simply "Motorcycle - As the Rush Comes" that's labelled just like that and NOT the Sweeping String Remix...A more basic mix of the SSR that has pretty much the same music. I could be wrong, this is long ago.

Don't think the version I am speaking of was ever released, either...maybe as part of mix comps, but not as a single.

You problably thinking of Tiesto's Nyana, but the mix appearing in it is an unfinised G&D remix rather than the original mix. Atleast it says so on the sleevenotes. Im not certain.

Am i wrong?
