if you're saying this behaviour is a charactaristic, in and of itself, of forums, youre dead wrong

have you considered the problem might be with who you consider to be 'elitists intellectuals'?

sure, there is a chance that the n00b does know more about certain things. but is it possible for the n00b not to?

a freshmen in high school generally knows less than a senior. generally.

I was referring to noobs in general, not myself.

Yes, a senior knows more, but if a senior transfers to a different school he isn't put into freshman classes.

Age isn't a factor obviously. Rank only means something if it is earned.

Wikipedia:

"More generally, "seniority" can be a description of an individual's experience or length of service, and can thus be used to differentiate between individuals of otherwise equivalent status without placing them in a hierarchy of direct authority. For example, in the United States Senate, the senator from each state with the longer tenure is known as the "senior senator" and carries some additional responsibilities to their state's constituents, but they are not formally dominant (or commanding) in any way over the junior senator (unless, for example, the senior senator is chair of a committee on which the junior senator serves)."

Numerically, the simplest way to express this is with the following formula:
Experience/service = post count + number of days you've been on TA

For instance, you have an experience/service rating of 37. I, on the other hand, have an experience/service rating of about 3082, making me by and far your senior in the magical land of the tranceddict forum.

The example of the Senate isn't a good one for our purposes, like the example of high school freshmen and seniors. The problem is that it assumes that a noob to this forum is a noob in general.

Post count has to be the worst way to assign status I can think of. Length of membership is a close second.

tubularbills: Do what?

Sunsnail: What makes you think that?
