Before last night, I expected John Creamer to steal the show.
John Creamer started had a little bit of a late start at about 3:30. The first 3 or 4 tracks in his set were very promising, but he kind of lost focus after that. I found that although a lot of the tracks he played were really good, his set lacked diretion and flow. He played some older tunes, some bad and some good. For some unknown reason, Creamer kept turning down the music at strange times. Does he usually do this? He didn't even really mix his last 3 tracks. What was that about? lol
All in all, Creamer was a bit of a dissapointment. With how good that Hilo set was, and what people said about him when he was at Boa back in 2005, I thought that he wasn't on his A-game.
I wasn't too upset after Creamer's performance, because really I came to see Behrouz. I was really hoping to hear a good set from Behrouz so that I could finally see why so many people hold this guy in high regard, and boy did he ever deliver.
The best way to describe Behrouz is a cross between 2002-2003 Deep Dish and Danny Tenaglia. Quite a good cross if you ask me. His set was comprised of 2002-2003 Deep Dish style dark, groovey progressive with brooding baselines, and 8am bojangled Deep Dish bangers. Like Tenaglia, he played a few housey house tracks and a good dose of vocals over fierce basslines. And like Tenaglia, the programming of his set was very "compartmentalized", with several segments dedicated to distinct sounds. Except for a few lulls, Behrouz was pretty relentless the whole morning which was a stark contrast to the other times I've seen him and how boring he's been.
Although there were a good number of people enjoying Behrouz's set, I found the crowd pretty unresponsive to his sound. I don't know what was up, but the crowd was kind of stale in that department. That said, did anyone notice the crazy amount of good dancers in there last night? There were quite a few.

Couldn't have said it better myself. My sentiments exactly. Behrouz was definately the closest thing i've heard to early morning Dish bojangled madness so needless to say, I was a happy camper. Awesome time and it was great to see everybody again!
