You should not rely on someone else's opinion when you are buying headphones or studio monitors. These are something you HAVE TO hear and figure out if you like them or not YOURSELF.
For those swearing by the $400 Ultrasone PROline 750 cans, I have personally heard those at the company's demo event, and I was disappointed. My Sony MDR-V700 sound definitely better at only $125 I paid for them in 2005.
Go to your local music equipment store and ask them if the can let you open floor items and listen for yourself. Bring best sounding original CD you have and play it on one of the CD players they got there. Dont use mp3's unless you are really familiar how its supposed to sound and sound quality is good.

AKG 240 for producing, HD280 for anything else.
IMO HD280 are best out there for djing... why? Because they block a ridiculous ammount of external noise out, and I value my hearing too much to use anything else. You can use HD280 for producing, as I do, but you must be aware that a fully closed design like that will boost the bass a bit.

How are the HD280 better than the HD25? I too read alot of ppl mentioning the HD280 I've not tried them myself but I really like my 25's.
I use my Senn280's with a pair of speakers to get the bass right. Really nice!

FJ
Look at the cups
If you dont need the isolation though, HD25s have better sound.

I see what you mean but I wouldn't count a little bit of padding as isolation though, the 25's fit on your ear and the 280s over the ear but both are still closed back designs.
I'm thinking of getting some headphones, I'll only be using them when I'm doing the structure of the track though, (late at night when I don't want to wake anyone up )as I think monitors are what you should be using to mix with. It's too hard to get the bass right with headphones, plus the fact they are so close to your ears.
At the minute though I'm using Mackies for mixing, then just shitty technics headphones, a phillips stereo, shure earbuds and car speakers to see how it sounds on those.
Anyway, the AKG 240 seem to go down well with any TA's that have them, so I might get them.

Or does it make a difference? DJ wise?
That little bit of padding makes a big diff :P
HD-280s REALLY clamp down on your head, HD25s have air gaps all around the pad. They dont give any attenuation specs for the HD25s on the sennheiser site, but my production bitch has a pair so I can probably do a "by ear" comparison one day.
