Cale, today my dad actually said "Hey...there's a Dell laptop on sale at...". I cut him off with, "Don't even finish that sentence. With all the problems Fred had, you and mom with the monitors, and the fact that they randomly combust, do you REALLY think I would buy a Dell?"

Bell Sympatico's Internet Support Centre is in Bombay. I called like 4mths ago at 1am in the morning to see if my area was down... started talking to one of the attendants because I noticed everytime I called, the person I spoke to had a prominent accent. Turns out they were in Bombay. I don't care where they are...just as long as they can help me out with my problem. In this case it was stupid Outlook messing up my comp.
p.s. I hate outlook

what about the problem of NOT UNDERSTANDING these people? I have, on several occasions, asked to speak to someone else at Bell and Rogers because their treatment of the English language was poor. I'm paying the ******s my money, I should not have to ask somebody to repeat themselves three times.

As a consumer, sure, as long as my concern gets answered. Odds are that's happening more with call centres in India where the costs are lower.
Yet, I can't help being dismayed with so many jobs being moved out of the country. People here need work too. In my previous job, I was responsible for assisting with the closure and transfer of production lines to Asia. It was sad seeing so many Canadians reassigned or let go just to improve profitability.

That's the nature of corporations though. They don't care about their workers. The worse it gets to attain a decent job, the less people will buy things so eventually, it will come to a head.
Even after I do my PhD, are there any jobs for professors these days? Nope. THe guy I work with every week is 45 and can barely string 2 year contracts together. Full time Salaries/benefits...nobody wants to pay them out anymore.
Our society is starting to show its cracks, big time.

Thanks, I am familiar with that.
I'm just remarking that it is one of the disappointing sides of working for a multinational manufacturing company.

Sucky
My dad and mom and brother and Mac all own Dells and have had no problems with theirs.
They're all happy and shit. Seems like some really hate Dell bc they suck for them, and others dont have any problems at all.
My mom and dad both are desktops, my bro and Mac laptops.
I still have my custom AMD 64
