Definetly try some of those tricks.

I find that scratching to a track can work if it's in the back on the second deck. EG on Marco V - Simulated (Original Mix) you can hear scratching quite a few times.

Yes its always done on the outgoing one. You usually want to lower the volume a little too, the spin back tends to get a bit louder then when its playing normally.
