I think you're all just going to have to suck it up and realize that DRM is here to stay (we've been spoiled in not having it early in digital media's lifespan) and that moving forward DRM is going to be a very big part of our lives.

I'd be pretty pissed if my car didn't let me go above the speedlimit by using GPS to figure out if I'm going above it. I'll just buy another car that does let me decide if I wanna speed or not. Same thign here - I should be the one to decide if I want to break the law or not, not my OS. The only thing this limitation accomplishes, is it punishes legit users with restrictions and inconveniences, while the people who want to break the law will find another way to do so. Much like in the rest of the anti-piracy schemes RIAA and MPAA try to cook up.

I agree. What happened to fair use (from a producer's perspective)?

Fair use also means not sharing, selling or stealing. So how are we supposed to have fair use for users and content creators without some sort of DRM?

RJ, not sure if you're aware, but Steve Jobs recently stated that DRM is bullshit and is urging record labels to do away with it completely. Consumers have started to finally speak up about it as well. When people can't do what they want with their files, they'll find some way to do it. DRM just doesn't work. There are and will be hacks, and I will gladly use them rather than shelling out x amount of dollars for new hardware when my current stuff is more than adequate.

Fuck DRM up its stupid ass. Too many specifications, no standardization. Bought $1000 worth of songs on iTunes, your iPod breaks, you decide to get a Creative Zen? Oh gee those songs are now useless, unless you're tech-savvy enough to decrypt the copy protection, which is incredibly easy (for FairPlay) thanks to the Hymn Project. HDCP is shit too, thankfully it won't even begin to be implemented for a few years.

I personally applaud the efforts of people working to rid the world of all hardcore digital rights management.

DRM does nothing but fuck the consumer.
