So I tend to gyrate towards guitar riffs and pummelling beats. 1200 Mics and Logic Bomb are good for this sorta sound. Juno Reactor is a must if you like these sounds. Also try Psyside, Psysex, S.U.N. Project, Goa Gil, and Ghreg on Earth.

1200 mics is probably the cheesiest psytrance out there. it's not even the slightest dark. it's just cool if you are out for cheesy guitar riffs.

Sometimes, I like cheesy guitar riffs, though. Like I said, I'm a rocker. And in all honesty, the tracks play well for the dancefloor, too. I can't argue with that. I've played many crowds where I try to crank out some darker, more hard-edged stuff and they just don't get it. Then out come Acid for Nothing, and it's on like frenzy.

The guy doesn't even know what he likes yet, and I'm certain (like many do) he'll move past the 1200 Mics phase. Just as the full-on kids move past the Infected Mushroom/Astral Projection phase. It's just fun music. I mean seriously, why does psytrance have to be broody? All genres have thier anthems, and they get the floor moving.

I'm saying that these two groups are usually the gateway drug into psytrance. Yes, the indeed rock. No doubt about that, but often new psytrancers come in thinking that all psytrance is like this. Much like with other styles of trance when people get past the Oakenfold/PvD/Tiesto phase when they realize that there is more out there than that. I'm (by far) discrediting IM or AP, they by all means of the word, ROCK!!! The live shows are even more phenomenal. But like I said above, they're usually the gateway drug into psytrance.

To be honest I try not to conform to the sub-categorizing of psytrance. It's such a diversely produced genre in it's own right and to sub-categorize really doesn't do it much justice. For me what qualifies "dark" is that chooga-chooga rolling bassline.

For someone who is into really out there, abstract and spiritual type stuff..I just haven't found psy-trance appealing. The scene itself would definitely appeal to me, but the music itself..it just doesn't speak to me in anyway. It's good for dancing, but beyond that....don't find it enjoyable. It's something i've considered getting into, esp after watching some videos from various psy-festivals and seeing that it has quite a following. I guess I prefer more "deep" and "progressive" sound, so prog-psy is something I think I should consider. Bass and effects, and lots of it, is just not what I look for.

I guess I prefer a more "organic" sound. "Iboga" and "Digital Structures" are labels that seem to have some good music on them, but I still prefer the music released on "Tilth" and "Toes In The Sand"...melodic progressive house. I prefer melodic epic and progressive trance vs. psy trance. You know this. But as far as a genre for dancing, definitely psy trance would be a good choice, and the scene itself would appeal to me, vs the trendy and sometimes snobby attitude of the club scene (I'm not trying to generalize, it just appears this way to me, esp in the US).

Is the idea behind "psy-trance" music really..the music as more of a guide rather than the forefront? It seems that way...cause of the idea of getting into a trance, and in that case...the melodic or harmonic aspect doesn't sound (usually) as important as the beat/percussion/bass and effects. I mean i'm not saying this is right, it's just what I observe..but I would like those who are really into this music to give me some insight into this, thanks.

I find the overuse of guitar riffs annoying, they all sound the same in most psy tracks.

it's true that psytrance tries to be more "serious" when it comes to the trance aspect. The spiritual and out of the body scenarios are often refered to. The music is also shaped in that way however in recent years a more and more commercial twist have gained alot of ground within psytrance as well with artists such as Astrix, Skazi and Infected Mushroom.
However not all israelis are falling into the commercial full on trap. Sound Field is one of the groups that tries to blend in progressive sounds into his production and some melodic making it a lovely mix.
