Sorry. I used to love him/them. I grew out of it, and realized there wasn't anything there. We all make it out of our teens someday.

there is a place that still remains
it eats the fear it eats the pain
the sweetest price he'll have to pay
the day the whole world went away

i think these are pretty awsome

let me rephrase my comment. The most straight-forward of any music out there? No (pop music takes the cake). Some of the most straight-forward within the realm of stuff that's considered (by any significant number of people) to be 'deep,' yes, IMO. They all require, at most, one link to the actual meaning. There's one level of decoding to do to figure out any of them, and they all harp on the same concepts, repeatedly, and with little breadth of perspective, focusing on self-indulgent pity & other unproductive emotions.

true, totally agree.
hes definitely no maynard but his lyrics dont suck...who says lyrics have to be hard to decode, or ambiguous in order not to suck? nothing wrong with straight-forward lyrics as long as theyre good imo

Well, since you seem to have some deep, profound knowledge, what do you think he should write about? Since what he writes about now is obviously too juvenile for you. NIN songs are not meant to reach out to everyone. Think about that.

And, how can you beat a guy who recorded an album (The Downward Spiral) in Sharon Tate's house? He also has the door from the house that had "pig" written on it in Nothing Studios

yeah, he must be good, then.

I never said TDS was bad. In fact, I like it [gasp], and I never said lyrics have to be deep or profound, but it's just silly to hear people go on about how genius they are, when there's nothing in them. Lyrics can be shitty, but just accept that they are. What should he write about? Whatever he wants. I don't have to praise him for it, though.

well, I used to love NIN, as well, but then I grew out of it, and the lyrics were part of it. Sure, it's fun to vent for a while, but after you sort things out, hearing somebody who's been bent on the same immature 'me vs. the world' idea for almost 2 decades is tiresome and uninteresting.

I dont mean that thats what makes him good, i just wish i had done it. And if he can write about whatever he wants, let him. And let the people who want to listen to it do so. You dont have to praise him, but you dont have to talk shit either.
