Thirdly, why should NASA spend it's own money protecting the world while the other countries sit back and do nothing about it ?

This must be a global initiative not limited to an organization of a particular nation.

yep, its just that nasa has the most funds to do it

I didn't realize that we had a foreign policy regarding the asteroids nation.

also, you're hinting at nation-building. Not our job, bad policy.

Not specially asteriods but I believe this falls under the impending doom category.

Thank you captain obvious. I was referring to the larger ones that pose a threat.

Basically you want USA to pay for protection of your country from asteroids that can potentially wipe you off the map. Nice.

It is not that they have the most funds. Rather, they have the technology to do it.

tanguska was large enough to pose a threat, and it happened about 100 years ago

so since person a has $1,000,000 and person b has $999,000, person A should pay all person b's bills?

Seeing as person B doesn't have the ability to use their $999,000, but person A does, it makes sense to pay the bill, especially as it's for the benefit of himself as well as person B. Also in reality person A has a lot more than $1000 dollars more.

Yes, person B does. He can pay person A for part of his expenses, since, as you said, it's benefiting both of them.

...and in reality, person B has way more money than person A, since person B is every other country in the world, and person A is the US.

I suppose it depends on how you look at person B. I suppose everyone SHOULD chip in, but are America going to really say 'Fuck, don't care if an asteroid we could have deflected hits us and wipes out all life, because no one else is willing to chip in'
