i also just kinda work from beginning to end straight...i typically don't like thinking up melodies until i'm into the song. i think the music flows a little more naturally that way. plus i think if you get in the habit of creating melodies or hooks first...the intros of the song end up kinda generic...

the only bad thing about working this way though is you get stuck a lot...but eh...happens

I work like that too, i may have some themes and elements already there but then i clear the whole arrangement and start from the intro. I make 30 sec or 1 min at the time and i only proceed when i'm satisfied with that little segment i've been working on. This way i put a lot of work and thought into every part of the track and i work more on details. I feel like the track becomes more interesting throughout this way, instead of being full of filler parts made only to get to that thing you planned at the beginning.

Agreed, I have found myself often writing the beginning (I always do that first) to completion and the hook or melody just comes natural - as if it belonged there.

I start with a melody or a hookline and the work around it... i do the main part so that it sound good.. then i do the breake and work my way backwards and finish of with the outro!
