Thanks. Do you mean Behringer Truth B2031A? Seems like youve had the best experience with monitors so ill for sure take a look into the behringer ones. How much was shipping for you (from UK to USA I take it?)?

ive just bought some m-audio bx5a's, £150, best money ive spent, the sound is pure quality, not so heavy on the bass, unlike the competitors - alesis mk1s, plus also john o'callaghan recommends them, so cant be bad at all. v v v v v good studio monitors, you can blast them out and they still sound crisp. deffo get these, well worth the money.

I bought a pair of these for a school project that I'm doing, and I'm really impressed with their performance. They sound very good, although there is a small dip in the mid-highs, but it's really not something you'll hear unless you really listen for it. The bass response is very good, especially for a speaker of this size). My only complaint about them is that the SPL (Sound Pressure Level - how loud they get) isn't all that high. It's high enough so they get loud, but not loud enough for those moments you really get into it. These speakers only cost 150 per pair as well.

In terms of actually building them, it will take around 2 hours, and you have to have some basic skills (like soldering). The instructions are very good, and tell you how to do each thing step by step.

He compared some of the worst monitors out there. Stop listening to people on here. Hell don't even listen to me. Grab a CD of a mix you've done (raw wav - NOT MP3) and take it to your nearest music store and listen to everything they have. There is no other way to buy monitors. Listening to people on the net will only make you be dissapointed in what you buy.

First, get some knowledge of speaker design and the different types (ported, rear ported, sealed, etc.) so you know WHAT you're buying. Also read a bit about accoustics. Just because a pair of speakers sound good in a shop, doesn't mean they will at your house. Eg. rear ported $2,000 monitors will sound worse than a pair of $500 front ported monitors when placed 2cm from a wall.

BE OBJECTIVE. What do you want? Do you want a true and accurate representation of the music? Or do you want them to sound impressive for your friends? If you want accurate sound but don't know what to listen for, listen to a pair of high end ($2,000+) Genelecs or EMES (both known to be among the flattest monitors out there) and compare everything else to that.

Also, just FYI, Behringer distribute their own goods direct. Once exchange rates and postage are taken into account there is typically very little price difference between importing and buying at the shop down on the corner.

It sounds like a lot of work, but you WILL kick your own ass in 12 months when you waste your money on a piece of crap that doesn't suit your needs.

Yeah I know what you mean. Made me realize I NEED to read more, and not rely on people I don't know I'll for sure read up on the things you mentioned, and maybe a bit more.

Building them would be fun, but I don't have the equipment, skills, or patience at the moment haha.
