oh definitely!

that is a valid point to not want to see one dj playing strictly ONLY their stuff. i'm not saying i want them to play only their stuff and nothing else. it's nice to hear some other music and it's nice hearing the djs incorporate their styles of music with other tracks from other artists. it's good their supporting ther fellow djs and styles and tracks they and the listeners like. i think it's important to mix and match but not stray too far from styles in that current set/tracklist.

i'd just like to see something like this:

1. DJ A - track A
2. DJ A - track B
3. other dj
4. other dj
5. other dj
6. DJ A - track C
7. other dj - (DJ A remix)
8. other dj
9. DJ A - track D
10. other DJ - (DJ A remix)
11. DJ A - track E

not DJ A playing two tracks of his out of 11, and/or playing too many different styles that don't match with the set that is being played.

maybe i'm just being overzealous about my favorite djs playing more of their songs because i want to hear them in the club when they are present.

demoted, i could listen to a full set of markus schulz only with no problems, lmao.

Andrea, it sounds to me what you really want to go see is a rock concert.

Another problem with this mentality: lack of set playlist variations. Case and point would be Gabriel & Dresden, who pretty much fit to a tee the very dj(s) you describe that you want. Their playlist has been the same for the past two or three years with marginal difference pardoning a few new productions and remixes by them and a few tracks from other people they cane. Other than that, you could download a set of theirs from mid 2005 and have basically the same set as one from 2007.

Unless you're making productions left and right, your playlist will become very, VERY samey. The problem with making productions left and right to add variety to your set is that quality will naturally fall victim to quantity.

Playing mostly your own tracks is like handcuffing yourself to a set number of tracks. And why would you want a dj to handcuff their creativity?

This is like one of those ideas that look wonderful in theory, but fail horribly in practice. Dj's who play mostly their own stuff tend to be shit.

I understand it's a valid criticism of the electronic scene, by saying "the dj takes credit from the work of other producers" - but the fact is, it's still the best way to have some fun live with EDM. Actually, the whole point of being a "dj" is to research a shitload of music and make your own artistic work by combining tracks from multiple sources in a creative way. The creativity behind it eventually died out from using the standard way of mixing (mix in a new track, let it run fully, mix in a new track, let it run fully, etc), but the point still stands as some argue that even using the standard way of mixing, you can make a "journey" out of it.

I suppose not everyone is able to produce in a short period of time such beautiful tracks like Chicane did in the late nineties:

Chicane Live In Palladium 22-01-2000

1. Intro / Nagasaki Badger
2. Halcyon
3. Saltwater (Tomski vs. Disco Citizens Remix)
4. Don't Give Up (Tomski vs. Disco Citizens Instrumental)
5. Offshore (Original/Disco Citizens Remix)
6. Maharvey
7. Saltwater (Original)

That was a live PA tho, not a DJ set. A whole another thing.

sorry, was convinced it was him mixing a couple of his tracks. Already attended a small live performance of Nu-Nrg during Energy 2005, but it was far from great.

If you want all the original Artist performing only there stuff. Listen to Daft Punk. Only sets they've done with other tracks are the Essential Mixes they've done on Radio 1.

Anything live is completely their work, or remixes of their work.

I think that DJs should be introducing people to lots of different music. "Producer sets" totally negate that, as do playlists that vary by just a few tracks from location to location on tours. Playing the same hundred or so "hot" tracks over and over again on a tour is just lame.

A DJ should never play his own music. That's what other DJs are for.
