Funny....labels never needed anything of the sort before, and electronic music existed quite comfortably without the inane trappings of album-oriented pop music, marketing, and diluted, banal, mainstream celebrity-DJ hype.

You may not like it, but thats just how it is. Im sure those who really love the music wont be bothered into believing in the DJ hype.

The DJ is only as good as the record.

Have to disagree with you there. DJs make or break records and have since the beginning. Obviously not every DJ has the club/crowd/capability to do this though.

Ishkur you are preaching to the wrong group here... this community is based off of DJ worship.

whenever i get out to a big dj event, what I witness is not mass dancing, but mass listening, just another concert you know? It's just a bunch of people who don't even think about dancing who bring their digital cameras, cell phones, armin shirts, and stand there and pump their arms when the dj tells them to. And I think this is directly related to things like compilations that market DJ identities rather than push a new sound, and radio shows that do the same.

Well where I am from our scene is not big enough to make any DJ big enuf for dj worship... so we just have our favorite DJ's from around the area, and at parties everyone really does just dance. I've always been impressed with the amount of solid and energetic dancing that goes down at our parties. So maybe their is a good thing to having a small EDM community sheltered from the rest of the city?

However, one of the most packed events I have been to in this city was when Benni Benassi came through a while back (a name like this is a really big deal when they come here) and what did I see? Tons of people who I'm sure have never been to an EDM event before, the majority were your standard bar crowd, but the place was packed and people seemed to love participating in DJ worship. I think its what they thought they should do, being that the bar scene is all about fronting your cool image and being popular, it only followed. "oooh hands up we love this DJ etc" and I bet alot of people did think he was just playing his music. We have events here with good local talent at a cheap cost but few people come, only the true EDM lovers, and they dance all night.
