Oh noes it's the big bad PharmaCos! And you just know that Bush is behind it too!!
Alright folks, seriously, let's chill the fuck out. If this did cure cancer, who do you think would profit from it? That's right, the pharmaceutical companies, you dolts.
The fact is, all that's happened so far is that some researchers at a university did a few experiments and got some interesting results. Nobody else has duplicated those experiments yet, there haven't been any clinical tests or RCTs yet, and even in their preliminary conclusions they found that it could cure some types of cancer, not that it always cured all types of cancer. At best, it's not a universal cure, and at worst, the clinical trials could fail outright (as has already happened with previous "cures").
This is not to say we shouldn't be optimistic, but I'm struggling to understand the logic of flagellating the pharmaceutical companies because of a lack of media attention. You do know that nearly every journalist hates them too, right? And even if they didn't, how would it make a difference?
It hasn't gotten a ton of media attention yet because the findings aren't conclusive yet - for all they know, this could be another Cold Fusion. End of story.

It needs proper toxicology testing. Alkyl halides such as this have been known to cause cancer and genetic damage.
Some of the studies don't sound promising at all:
| quote: | A randomized controlled trial in children with congenital lactic acidosis found that while DCA was well-tolerated, it was ineffective in improving clinical outcomes.[5] A separate trial of DCA in children with MELAS (a syndrome of inadequate mitochondrial function, leading to lactic acidosis) was halted early as 15 out of 15 of the children receiving DCA experienced significant nerve toxicity without any evidence of benefit from the medication.[6] A randomized controlled trial of DCA in adults with lactic acidosis found that while DCA lowered blood lactate levels, it had no clinical benefit and did not improve hemodynamics or survival.[7]
Thus, while early case reports and pre-clinical data suggested that DCA might be effective for lactic acidosis, subsequent controlled trials have found no clinical benefit of DCA in this setting. In addition, clinical trial subjects were incapable of continuing on DCA as a study medication due to progressive toxicities. |
In a petri dish it may look kind to normal cells and not to cancer cells, but all sorts of crazy shit probably happens when it actually gets into the body. Difluoroacetic acid might be a little safer, but I doubt it, as I said before halogenated alkyl chains tend to be dangerous.
