And I'll also say that a lot of times, it kind of disappoints me to see during a build, when the crowd is going nuts, the DJ is with his back toward us leafing through his CD-wallet. Kills the moment for me. Like I mean, I understand it's your job and this is everyday-business for you kind of like going to TA is mine, but at least try to look like you're there to enjoy the music you put out, and not look like you're there to get paid.
If you watch symphonies and like classical concerts, you'll see these guys are sooooo into the music when they play. They're lost in it, and that's what I want to see in the DJ performing as well. I really don't think that's so much to ask for considering they're supposed to be playing music they really like.
On the topic of not playing good tunes at all, it kind of depends for me. If I have better choices, I just leave. However, if the DJ is interacting well, he/she pumps the crowd as well, and when you have a crowd that's totally into the music and is just crazy-energertic, it's going to help you get in the moment as well, despite shitty music being played. I feed off the crowd energy a lot at clubs. If I wanted to dance by myself, I'd stay at home and dance in my room.
