there are plenty of flourishing democracies around the world that dont have personal rights reflected in an antiquated document that is incredibly difficult to keep modernised. so stop parading your ignorance.

and i would say democracy & freedom function far better in australia than they do in the US. gee, where's our patriot act?

so keep up the non sequitur arguments there mate.

causation is largely irrelevant imo. you certainly cant try and analyse every single gun tragedy in the US for some kind of social pattern. but there is ONE common thread- the easily accessible modern killing tools.

right. i acknowledged the fact that he could have chosen a less effecient way to exact his homicidal narcicism or an even more effecient way. either way, to the victim or victims that made it out alive, it's very traumatic. but they have their lives.

pkcRAISTLIN, Democratically speaking, things in Australia are far better than in USA. But lifting constitutional rights will not make people happier, free and more secure. Tyranny will follow and abuse. Dictatorship. People abuse power when they have too much of it. The school shooting is very terrible, but I am afraid it will be taken the wrong way. Those crazy dark forces within US government that want to take people's freedoms away will now have a bigger political tool to use in their campaign. Instead of fighting issues at hand, things will go the wrong bad way I think. I just cant believe that you said that post I quoted earlier. I cant believe it, really. You are crazy. Crazier than all the deniers on this forum, thats for sure.

im interested mate. these "crazy dark forces" that wish to take your freedoms away, whats their overall goal?

im not crazy. merely pointing out that democracies can and do function very well without a constitution that engenders inalienable rights such as the right to bare arms. and i really do fail to see what this amendment gives the american people other than incidents like this.

well, causation in this case would largely be irrelevant because the shooter offed himself.

it would be very hard for a jury to sentence someone for this without causation though. that would make your difference between attempted manslaughter or first degree murder

People who are insane and want to kill people will always find a way of doing it.

Australia's gun control laws did little to stop Port Arthur or Monash University, I might add.

no, not "exactly". how many similar events have been prevented by our gun laws we'll never know. but because people can circumvent the law, is that reason to not have laws to begin with? people still speed despite laws curtailing speed limits, why have these limits at all huh?
