Then again I'm lookin at getting quality releases and someday recognised on a global scale, nothings impossible if you put the time in.

You've got to have passion in the music.

I can find it can take me an hour to get in to a mixing session after work sometimes but once im hooked ill do it until i go to bed, 6-12 and try and grab some dinner.

I find weekdays after work are the times i get most things done and the odd sunday if im not hungover lol.

I used to be a big pc gamer but got bored of never having anything to show for it..wasting time.. and I loved trance and wanted to give something back.

I havent watched TV or played games for four years now, that was when I started to get into music.

Interesting thread so I'd thought I'd decide to comment

I've been producing for over 3 years now. Initially, as it was all new to me, I'd spend the majority of my time learning my trade on Reason, i'd also find time to work full time and get to the gym 3-4 times a week and go out with mates once a month.

The more I became familiar with production, I'd maybe spent a solid week producing per month. I still have time to veg and watch the footy on TV and spend time with my family and doing the things that matter most.

Now that all my uni mates have finished their courses and moved back home, I've really only got time for my full time job lately and music. I usually watch TV while producing to catch up on the worldly events. I'm lucky that I've managed to make some new friends at work so try and socialise when possible.

I still love producing as much as i did back when i started, and for all the money I've spent on upgrading synths and computer etc, I would do it all over again. Best thing I've ever spent my money on.

So yeah, i still try and find time for plenty of other things, but as I'm single at the moment, I tend to have more time than others may do.

Lets see, used Reason for 2 years and switched to FL Studio 6 months ago which rox the crap out of Reason.

I produce A LOT. Probaly on average 3-4 hours a day. The funny thing is I make my biggest improvement when I have to stay away for a week or 2 (like now for finals)

Overall I just think it comes down to 2 things

1) How much free time you have.
2) How much you *love producing (or in my case how much your *obsessed)

I've skipped classes to produce, failed exams, stayed in on the weekends when the biggest parties were going down, one time I stood up a date actually (made plans with her and said Id call her before I left to get her, sat down in my studio for a minute.. she never got a call that night lol) Sure it may interupt with my daily functioning but the way I see it, there really is nothing in the world I look forward to more than just sitting down in my studio with come cigs, a cup of coffe and just jamming out. Its actually my remedy for EVERYTHING too.

If Im mad, angry, depressed, frustrated, ANYTHING, I just go into my studo for a few hours and when I come out its like I'm balanced again and nothing matters. Its def a drug for me, but a million times better than morphine or crack or any of that shit so I just consider myself lucky that I have something in my life that I enjoy so much.

Yeah, for me its the same, not so much producing but singing and guitar and piano and music in general, its a lot like drugs I guess, its the only thing sometimes that can pick you up.

On the other hand, I'm a little bit different in the sense that I would probably never skip a party or a date to play music, mainly because I think that you make better music if you have experienced more things, so I try to experience as much as I can. I've written songs about parties, friends and of course women (who hasn't?) before, so I try to use it as an inspiration.

Wouldn't it be better to use both now? 2 or more sequncers in rewire mode rock! I wish there was a Maelstrom VST

Yeh honestly I tried it out when I first got FL and I didnt like the way Reason ran in slave mode, it was just hard to get use to so I didnt really try.

Not to mention it whored up my cpu (which I still can't understand because Reason alone barely uses any CPU but in slave mode appears to become a blood sucking leach)

Eventually I got so many VST's and even though I wish they had a malstrom and redrum VST I've adjusted to new ones that are just as good if not better, like battery for drums, z3ta for synths etc etc. I still agree rewire would be the best way to go, I just really haven't put any time into getting use to it but I def will one of these days.

it isnt a commitment to me. i just make music whenever i get the urge, or whenever i have a free moment. i think i spend about 4-6 hours a week and sometimes wish i had more time. but i love everything about music so spend as much free time as i can.

i think i need to be working at least 30 hours a week purely getting pissed and working on music at the same time, so i can produce tracks for myself, and work on tracks to build up a foundation that can lead to me being booked to dj enough to earn a tidy living.
