that is HILARIOUS that he said that to you, i have a similar experience! when he spun at glow 2 years ago, i met him and he said "you are tranceyes from tranceaddict right?" and i was like " ??????" because we had never even talked or anything! and i was like "how the hell did you know that?" and he just grinned and was like "i just knew"

he is still hands down one of the most down to earth, coolest djs i've ever met and i've def met a lot of douchebags

that's great that you had an awesome night!

We selected T-NY as the venue cause we saw the potential that the floor carried with it to be a great EDM venue. What we did not know however that how "ghetto" that place was, not just with the patrons that it attracted but even the STAFF. This is completely our fault as we did not research enough into this club prior to booking it. The Talla/Funabashi gig on 4/13 was an indication enough to me that we had comitted a HUGE MISTAKE. EVERYONE that came for that gig went back home with a "not-so-positive" view of the club, given to all the shite that went down that night which most of you are well aware off. Ridiculous.

We had great plans to setup the deco at the place and try and turn it into a better experience but after 4/13 it just did not seem worth it, rightly so. Yesterday's event was nothin short of an insult. From the start of the event, it was difficult for me even to get all my crew in the venue. It soon dawned upon us that we were nothing else for the club but just another of those ghetto promoters who stand outside with the guest-list, just that I had dropped quite a lot of $$$$ into it. These guys just don't know how to run a clubnight and what "booking" a venue actually means. I remember what the manager of the venue once asked me, "Why drop $$$$ for a DJ and get 300-500 people when we just spend $250 for a DJ and get 1000 people and run the entire night." That itself should have been an indication to get the efff out of that place. Commerical, Non EDM and ones who don't understand nothing about the Dance Music culture.

Off the first hour (10:30 - 11:30) that I myself spent outside the venue with the guest-list in my hand, I saw few of our guests change their mind and go back cause of the ridicule that was the door. So many of them were denied entrance that it's just sad. When someone books a venue, it's suppossed to be THEIR venue, they control the door and everything, except for the bar and the bouncers (depending on the contract really). While we knew couple of venues that offer such a contract, its just beyond my belief how we still went ahead with T. MANY of our guests were turned away cause the way they dressed. The $$ of ALL of our guests who were "Walk-in's" went to the club and not us, cause as it happens the guests are suppossed to know the name of the guest list or HAVE to be on one in order to be counted as OUR guests. WHAT? We were made to be just another promoter for that night, PERIOD.

We made a mistake in the selection of the venue, should have stuck to the well known EDM venue's or atleast the ones who understand what "booking a venue" means.

M.I.K.E: While I did not get to hear his set at all except towards the end, I was really feeling it. After the event we took a walk outside for a while talking stuff in general and how he still enjoyed the night a lot and what counted was that those who were on the floor really enjoyed themselves. Great DJ, Greater Person, Legend. RESPECT.

Brad: Bro, you have MAD skillz. It was just amazing the shit that you were doing while spinning everyone who witnessed you spin on the booth were absolutely amazed. Your mixes were all FLAWLESS.

Marcello: It was nice to have you spin for us. Wish you all the luck.

I personally apologise to each one of you for this show. This is not at all how I wanted to launch "Submerge" in NYC. Having done Ferry Corsten, Digger, J00f, Skazi, Infected etc. and having supported events where we had PvD and Sasha spin in our home country (INDIA), this was just embarassing to say the least.

Cheers,
Sumit A.

thats a shitty story bro,,but its a lesson learned...sorry that it didnt work out....

I was in this category unfortunately... after waiting in line for nearly 40 minutes (we got on line before 11!!) and seeing the door staff and croud..... we changed our mind as we were at the door.... we were really bummed...

M.I.K.E., Dj Eco and Brad.... sorry we didn't make it... I'm looking forward to another event.

It sounds to me almost like the bouncers are trying to sabotage the party. They are picking out the people they feel would be at the EDM event and turning them away at the door. This way if there is a low turn out for the EDM events then they won't be booked again. That really sucks since we see the level of people that they chose to have come through the door, girls given blow jobs right there .

Don't feel bad about the venue choice. It is trial and error and we will follow a good party to any location as long as the music's good we are gonna follow you and not the venue.

Good Luck in the future I know I am looking forward to more local events to me they always make the best memories.

I have been seriously thinking the same thing. They are all prolly pissed that they might have to listen to edm while at work, and didn't take the fact lightly.

Have you ever tried to throw a party on the top floor at Bowlmor lanes? They have an awesome setup there and they might be a little bit better since it isn't a hip-hop club...

The security there tends to be alot more laid back as well... Bar 13 is another good spot right around the corner... I would kill to see M.I.K.E at a place like that (especially in the summer with the roof open)... They have done events before...

To be honest, I live a 5 minute walk from T-NY and I knew this was a disaster waiting to happen when I first heard about it... I walk by that place all the time and its nothing but trash that go there... and the bouncers look like those types that you love to hate because they're always out to get you.

Keep looking for a place as the venue makes all the difference...

After going to a different club for drinks I got there around 12:15 to a long line of hippity-hoppers. Two things seemed strange. 1- I wasn't planning on this kind of wait. 2- This crowd for a guy with so many trance classics? I didn't believe this could be the right place! The bouncer was telling some tuff guy story to his friend a little too loudly. When we were next in line the bouncers told the guys in front of us they had to coat check their baseball caps, and if they were spotted wearing them in the club a bouncer would take it off their head and keep it. By the time I was at the front of the line i think M.I.K.E. had just gone inside after chatting with Submerge. The Submerge guy spotted me as a non-gangsta type and helped usher me in which maybe helped in avoiding having to deal with the T-NY staff much.

Inside the edm area looked nice with couches and speakers surrounding a dancefloor that was close to the dj booth, and a balcony with couches above the dancfloor, but it was pretty empty. I thought why is there such a line at the door if its empty inside. But then i found upstairs it was over-crowded where there were 2 floors of hip-hip.

Overall it was a good experience, maybe helped by my pre-partying - which if there were a lot of negative vibes from the crowd/staff, numbed me to them. Good sets from Eco and M.I.K.E., it was nice to see some of the T-NY crowd make it to see M.I.K.E. and get into it. Also nice to check out a venue i've never been to before. The best part being the experience of a smaller crowd who all were enjoying the music in an intimate setting with the dj's close and available.

Ok, bad stuff first.
* Slow, slow line (35 minutes, totally unnecessary). But no problems from security in general or about the way anyone looked. The $15 and $20 reduced list turned into $25.
* The trance/EDM crowd was tiny, even tinier than the last show. Really disappointed at the turnout. I'm afraid that the reviews of the situation last time turned people off, and it sounds like the line did make people who actually ventured out give up and turn back around. That's a huge bummer. And yes, as Eco noted, I do think that if this place gained enough popularity, we could take the mo-fo over and it would be great. But, bygones, because it's clear that no one's looking to plan another event there. It's too bad, because I really did enjoy the main room.

Now, to the good stuff.
*I only caught the last few songs from Brad Miller. Seemed like he was doing a great job. I had downloaded a set of his and enjoyed it thoroughly, so I'll try and check him out again. Nice guy too.
*Eco, I loved the set, was totally digging your wacky mix of grindy industrial sounds and great remixes of Bombs and (I think it was...) The World In My Eyes. Not sure if the folks wandering in from the other floors knew what to do with you though. One guy was asking me what category you were and i didn't know what the hell to tell him. My friends from Albany were def liking it. I sent them home with one of your mixes and a couple tracks, so I'm pretty sure you've got a couple new fans.
*M.I.K.E. was just excellent. I didn't know anything about him except a couple productions I was aware of, but he really threw it down. I liked that he didn't seem to be holding back in deference to the low numbers on the dancefloor. Would love to see him back in the city, and soon. Megashira was bliss.

As usual, good to see Eco, Matt, Enigma (i always know things are gonna be OK when I see Tom), Skillz, Ay Star(aka brian, ha ha), Colibri (believe it), GMoney, Cash, Polly... lordy, am I forgetting anyone?

I hope Submerge and Strobelife find a location or two that works for them. I really appreciate how hard you work and the risks you take to try to create a party that rocks. I'll continue to be a guinea pig for whatever you try out.

-M

Hmmm i dunno where to start the review for Friday Night. I flew down from Virginia just for the gig as I am part of the original Submerge (India) and so did my friend from Ohio. Sumit and Matt are the NY Submerge guys who did all the bookings n planned the night. I came there to help em and for support. When we got to the club the bouncers wouldn't let us ( Our crew of 4) inside!!! They were acting like SOB's from the beginning. Sumit told me that this was the only thing he was worried about was the club management.

After convincing em for 15-20 mins that it was us who were having the party did they allow us inside. When i entered inside around 9:45ish i got kinda shocked looking at the crowd that was there then! But luckily all of those people left around 10:15ish when Brad started dropping his tunes. The most f*&k#$ part about the club was he kept 2 more different parties upstairs and so we didn't know who was coming for what. There was a lot of confusion about this all thru the nite. So one of us was standing all thru the nite tryin to find the EDM crowd in the queue. When i was on the door around 12-2 i think 20-30 EDM people turned and walked away when the saw the crowd that was entering inside. All in all as Sumit said we became just a bunch of promoters for the club when we were supposed to have the whole freaking club for ourselves!!

About the music... the amount of time i was inside the club i was going crazy. Brad and ECO played AMAZING SETS and then i caught 2 hours of M.I.K.E's set... I was rite in front of the booth going mad... A real amazing sett!!! Everyone on the floor was having a good time der!! MIKE also had a very good time!! Infact when we apologized him for the bad turnout he said he had a blast and was happy to keep it a Underground thing!!

Oh Well..... we will try to find a better place when the next Submerge Gig happens.

Samir
