Still requires iTunes.
I take my Zen to work..and to my buddy's place who uses a Mac, and I"m able to connect it...and Drag & Drop files from any computer and have them play on my Zen. Mind you.. specific files designed for iPods such as mpeg4 can be dropped on mine, but won't play until converted.

I could be wrong, but based on the people I know who own iPods, they are unable to connect their iPods to any computer and drag and drop. Only if iTunes is loaded on that computer are they able to use that feature.

I've downloaded sets, vids, pics. etc...even from TA onto my computer at work..and dragged it straight into my Zen to listen throughout the day and on my way home. The people at work who ALLLL seem to have iPods can't.

Like I said though, I could be wrong...and like someone mentioned earlier.. there might be a patch that can fix that. But why go through all that trouble when you could just buy a unit that has that capability right off that bat?

wow are you serious? that just added to my list of "why I never want to own an Ipod"... I thought drag&drop is a standard feature in all mp3 players

^ Yeah, he's right. I think only IRiver and Creative make devices that are completely free of any proprietary programs. I was shocked to find that out too.

my ipod purchase history

1. 2nd generation - 40gb (physical hard drive)
played every day 3hrs for an entire year, usually for commute. after 1 year of excessive wear and tear, it broke down. i replaced the battery myself and it still works, i use as a backup

2. ipod mini (4gb hard drive)
same as above, wore down to excessive use, but the main flaw is the hard drive, it broke down

3. ipod shuffle 1gb
broke down, usb piece broke off, junk

4. ipod nana 2gb (flash memory)
almost 2yrs of excessive use and still works like a charm, flash memory is the way to go. i will never buy a hard drive based mp3 player again!

Anybody want to buy a broken 4gb Silver iPod mini?

It's not really broken, its just that the click wheel doesn't work. The reason why it doesn't work is because the cable from the wheel to the CPU or whatever its called got ripped and needs to be soldered back into place.

Any offer will do haha

It is in most, but not with the iPod. Like someone else mentioned though, you can format an iPod and install a 3rd party, open-source OS on it and it'll have the same software functionality as any other plug-and-play MP3 player.
