i am a fan of sushi. you put any type of sushi on the table, and i'll eat it.
and yes, the ginger is supposed to add a nice kick to the sushi, and not supposed to be eaten. . well in most asian dishes, cooks use ginger a lot with their dishes as an extra taste.

hands down best sashimi is live scallop (not to be confused with regular scallop nigri). uni comes a close second, followed by chu-toro. o-toro is too buttery.
ama ebi (sweet shrimp), ikura (salmon roe), giant clam and aji in a ponzu scallion ginger sauce gets an honorable mention. i've eaten way too much sushi to still be stuck on tuna, salmon & yellowtail.

if sushi was a man, i would let him go ass to mouth. that's how much i love sushi.
i used to eat the ginger on top of my rolls too, but then i was told by a waitress that it was to be eaten by itself in between different types of rolls, so that your tastebuds can "start over fresh" before moving onto the next joyful little explosion of flavors in your mouth.
