To let you know... Eddie Brock/Venom was indeed a skinny guy in an alternate vision of the Marvel universe in another series of Spiderman comics so Topher Grace's rather tiny appearance compared to the one Brock is like in the "regular" comic series, is pretty accurate to an extent. All the main characters were quite a bit different in that alternate vision of the universe as well and have had alot different life story.
Spiderman 3 combines lots of elements from these 2 different perspectives on the characters and on the movie all'n'all. I haven't even seen the movie yet but according to the trailer i've seen i can already say there are ALOT of events and scenes which mix up things between the universes. Nevertheless, to make an entertaining movie, it doesn't really matter unless you're a nitpicking turd.
I've been a comic book fan for over 20 years, yet i've only really enjoyed a handful of these comic adaptations over the past 10-15 years, first 2 Spidermans and first 2 X-Men being among them. Most of them have still been ok as basic entertainment, which is all they are meant to be instead of being critically acclaimed academy awards worthy serious drama. These comic book based movies aren't even meant to be taken seriously for a bit, just to laugh, laugh some more and maybe enjoy the ride .. If you can't do this, then i guess you should go watch some other kind of movies instead of wasting your money into these, huh.
For the emo issues.. Peter Parker/Spiderman has always been more or less an emo character in the comics, like sobbing alone in the dark, and lots of "i love you forever"s and things like that have been said over the years in the comics too so it's pretty spot on to use such lines in the movie as well. Obviously if you don't know this before seeing the movie, it might suck big time for you.
