By 4 gig-sized folders. Which can be backed up on DVDs. That way, once a folder is full (4 gigs) I create a new one for any new tracks or sets I get, and I back up that folder at that point in time. So I am always aware of what music is backed up.

I dont sort by another other method. But I am a IDTag Nazi... they need to be filled out properly, atleast the name and artist, preferably the genre and abulm too.

I find files i want either by Google search (takes less than a second) or by using the libraries in Winamp.

My actual files names are ALWAYS labelled in this method "Artist - Title (Remix)"

Same w/ sets. "Artist - Live @ ______ XXXX-XX-XX"

I'm pretty anal about the labeling of my music... cant deal w/ shit not being done right... like wrong use of capitals and whatnot.

you do know that consumer grade recordable CD's and DVD's only have a lifespan of on average 2-5 years don't you?

You'd be better off just backing up everything on another hardrive. more stable, and should anything happen to the back up as well.. easier to recover the data.

EDIT: actually I think DVDs were longer. so I just did a search to find out and got conflicting answers.

Well, even in that case, if I'd have to re back up, its still an easy process, and I have everything in 4 gig sized folders.

Besides, 4 gigs just seems like a good size grouping of music. Not too large, not too small. So that works for me.

I have 3 main folders: Releases, Sets, and My Compilations:

'Releases' has a folder for each album released, titled "Album Artist - Album Title"

'Sets' has a folder for each set I have a tracklist for, titled "Date Artist - Live @ Wherever". If I don't have a tracklist, the mp3 goes directly into the Sets folder, titled the same way as the folders.

'My Compilations' is for mix CDs that I make out of single mp3s that I download. This folder is further broken down by Genre, and each genre has a few folders for each compilation of mp3s.

This works well for now, eventually I will have to break them up even more by year.
