1. i would say technology in general, but that is a very broad term nowadays, since everything is basically technological. our houses and cars, computers, our culture, etc.. so if i would single out 1 thing that would mindboggle a 18th century civilian, i would say the internet and online technology, and how it is accessible at our fingertips. an infinite amount of information and data at our fingertips. if you told an 18th century person you could talk, see, and listen to someone across the globe instantly without any interruptions, they would basically not understand that concept.
2. the lack of trust we have about our neighbors. back in the 1700s, i am sure there were not such things as people robbing other people's houses, kidnapping children, vandalism, pedophiles(well there was back then, but they had a different view about it back then. lol), mass suicides, etc... it was a very carefree environment.
