Read about speaker cabinet tuning, THEN try and come back and continue this debate. [QUOTE]

dude, again:

....it wasn't me who suggested "the 2031's were a rip off of 8030's er....i mean 1030's......umm... I mean 1031's." Damn it why can't google just get it right for me all the time" <<<
I don't want to (do the same as you and) just read stuff so I can pretend that I'm the oracle, especially when most of the info I've read is sales blurb disguised as reviews (yes even on google!).

[QUOTE]I'm not going to bother replying if you continue this stupidity. I don't care what their sales rep says, speaker science is laughing in his face. You probably didn't even consider the fact that he is a SALES REP and will say any old shit to get a sale.[QUOTE]

...I'd prefer to take the word of someone who works for Behringer...

[QUOTE]Seeing as Mackie dominate the budget 8" speaker market, it's only logical that Behringer sprouts some bs propaganda like that to get you to buy them.[QUOTE]

Oh yeah, I forgot Mackie HR824's at about £700 (at the cheapest you'll find them) they really dominate the "BUDGET" speaker market. I can probably name half a dozen speakers that outsell the mackies in terms units, that are half the price.

[QUOTE]I thought people were smart enough not to listen to sales people... I guess I was wrong.[QUOTE] Again, just because you read it somewhere doesn't make it true, and as I've pointed out in all these posts; it's not me who listens (or reads) the sales guff and tries to call it my own knowledge.

You know you're wrong, just admit it and stop acting like a girl.

Facts:
1. Behringer used the same model numbers as Genelec.
2. Mackie is a completely different type of monitor (radiator).
3. Genelec were the only company to ever use that design.

Grow up.

Actually...

This is true.
I'm going to agree to disagree. It's actually been the most retarded thing to argue about.

Likewise.

I had a listen to everyyhing bar the Event 5's listed. Really did spend alot of time listening to each monitor (And alot more not mentioned) while making a purchase. I didn't like the bx5's, they were two small and not loud (which was the case with all the <5 inch monitors. Likewise with the Rocket rp5's. Even the rp6's lacked the bass I was looking for. The biggest problem with all the 5 inch monitors was they just wern't loud enough and distorted when crancked up loud. They just couldn't keep up with bigger monitors.

I was really impressed with the Alesis M1 active mkII's compared to everything else I heard (even the 8inch monitors). They had more bass then every other 6.5 inch monitor. In terms of equals to the Alesis MK2 actives the only one that was similar were the Event ASP6's. Event TR6's wern't bad either.

In the end I went for the active mkII's as they had more bass then the majority of the 8" monitors.

1, already explained why.

2, They are rip off's - I didn't say identical. That's why they look the exactly the same from the sides, back and front (apart from the front ports). Christ, even the diagrams on the back of the clearly Mackie copied "heatsinks" are virtually identical. And more to, why if there Gene copies did they put that "heatsink" on the when only the Mackies have that?
http://www.music-town.de/shop/image...enelec1032a.jpg
I know it's from the 1032's but they're the same on the back.....

3,Please. I don't think there is enough space on the traceaddict server to post all of the front ported 8" speakers.

Just go and handle, play, install, use some real kit, rather than just reading about it. -as I said google/SOS can't tell you everything

It amazes me how when you started this you you were like "I think theyre Genelec rip offs of 8030 or something or rather." and now your talking as if on the seventh day you decided to give man the monitor speaker.

I have to admit, I've been a bit facetious though this whole thing but what I'm trying to say is when you have both 824's and Truths next to each other, it's really clear that they are copies. We'll just have to disagree then.

if you are on a REAL budget...diy is the way to go, i have 2 pairs of 3 way monitors 8 x 4 x t and 10 x 5 x t, brillent value for money cos i can tuen the cabinets however i want...i also have a diy subwoofer, but that uses some quite expensive components so isnt cheep...the 8" 3 way monitors are pleanty for production needs however and probably cost me about 150 - 200 to put together

Usually once you take the cost of a decent amp into account, the savings are minimal. Also, active monitors have better transient response etc.

id have to disagree, the response of most monitors you buy of the shelf is severely compromised in terms of cabin space...secondly...i woudlent call the amps in them particularly decent...yes you do need to account for the amp in the cost, but you are still getting a better sound money for money...

if you wantedf ot save on wiring in a passive system, you can infact buys some brillient active plate amps for diy speakers...along with plate amps for subwoofers

DIY speakers are a nice option in theory, but there are so many variables that will affect the final sound of them (porting, cab material, shape, foam, baffling, positioning, drivers, amp componenets, horn placement etc.etc.etc.) that getting it right will probably cost you an arm and a leg if not in components, then at least in terms of time.

It is a fun project and if you really know what you're doing you can get a good result, but I doubt realistically that you will save money making speakers of an equivalent value and performance of manufactured monitors.

well yes, ive been buildign them for a few years now, t takes time to learn how to do it...however there are many step by step projects on the net where cabin size, port calcs, particular cones...bracign and damping, have alredy been worked out for you...following one of these plans can have fantastic results
