- go up to the cloisters/fort tryon park for spectacular views of the palisades and the hudson. most tourists (or ny-ers for that matter) are too lazy to venture all the way to inwood.

- same goes for wave hill park in riverdale, which also includes an art gallery and a landscaped botanical garden.

- picnic on governor's island (which opens in june)

- sneak into the abandoned city hall station that closed in the 1940s -- accessible via a short run through the 6-train side of the current city hall/brooklyn bridge stop.

- walk onto (what's left of) the abandoned High Line elevated railyards on the west side. it used to be a 'secret' sort of space, but nowdays everyone's out there and the construction crews are tearingdown/building all the time...

- speak into the whisper wall at Grand Central or take a tour of the place with the Municipal Arts Society. you used to be able to sneak to the top (behind the clock), but the doors are guarded and alarmed now...

- take the train down to coney island. visit the aquarium, walk on the boardwalk, have a beer at Ruby's, then maybe get a pizza at Tottono's. the Mermaid Parade is June 23rd.

- go to this year's Festivus in central park (exact date is in my sig).

- attend an EBC streetball game at the Rucker (season starts end of June) or a lesser quality streetball game @ the west 4th st playground or lafayette gardens (brooklyn).

- check out a minimoo party.

yes it is...right along the East River, right along a bike path that stretches all the way thru Harlem...

and then on the WEST SIDE, West Side Highway, privy to great views of Jersey, along a GREAT bike/skate/pedestrian path - if u start uptown around 42nd street and walk downtown...it leads past the Intrepid, Chelsea Piers, edge of Chinatown, then into Hudson/World Financial Centre-Battery Park residential area/Liberty Park/Financial District with their own sculptured areas/gardens etc. and awesome for people/boat watching, theres sure to be soo many ppl out now that its summer!!! (all sites in themselves, god i could spend all day just walking around!!) everything is green now and beautiful!!!

Sights: when I brought friends around they thought the best sights were Top of the Rock and in Central Park in the great lawn (you can see views from all sides). I love going to CP for chillin with some (prepacked) drinks, lounging in the sun and checkin the views of midtown.

I also really like to eat in the meat packing district at out door cafes and shopping in soho.

There is another place called the Boat Basin Cafe that is right on the water where sailboats anchor, and is built into a bridge, so there are no walls, juts arches. Its a great place to go in the summer, because it has great outdoor views and has live music/great drink specials for happy hgour/sunset times. Not 100% great for food (its a paper plate and plastic food kinds place), but again, great drinks and outdoor eating.

sounds wicked!!! actually, i totally dont have a problem with so called "plastic food". its fun and sometimes even more romantic than a proper dinner. and anyway, if u are able to dine @ f.e. upper east side with formal dresscode deluxe n stuff, imo u also shouldnt hesitate to enjoy the "opposite"

thanks for the tipps, definitly will keep those

does someone know marc singers documantary dark days!???
its about the penn station next to the amtrak tracks...
and about the whole situation during the past when a pretty big group of homeless ppl built "houses" and lived down there in total darkness.
i think it isnt that famous even for new yorkers right?
but does someone know if these are still open, or what happened to them during last decades?

it must be this:
