I agree that it's pretty stupid to be doing anything over 120-130 on the HWY. But with the gas prices so high, it's more gas efficient if you're going 110-120 compared to 100. And if you want to save a lot of gas make sure you tailgate trucks and buses

huh? what are u talking about?

Increasing your highway cruising speed from 90km/h to 120km/h can raise fuel consumption as much as 20%!!

That's actually not correct. Most modern car motors are built to a spec where the peak efficiency is reached while traveling slightly over 100 kph, usually close to 110, and the efficiency drops off more at lower speeds than higher speeds (think about it - efficiency is 0% when you're idling, but much higher than that when you floor it).

While it's true that you're wasting more fuel at 150 kph than you are at 90 kph, 110-120 is better than either of those. Driving slower than one normally would is neither fuel-efficient nor safe, contrary to popular belief.

Of course, this all depends on the model year of the car, quality of the transmission, computer, etc., but 100-110 is a good rule of thumb if your car was made in the past 15 years.

I cant control myself i go crazy.

Which highways do you guys love to speed on ????

hell yeah...QEW/403 on the way to Hamilton...just east of the mountain there are some funnnnnnnnn twisties and the mountain itself, without any traffic, is great.

I've done the drive in a bunch of cars, but most fun were my old modified Ford Focus w/full suspension kit (ripped around a Jag no prob, lol), a friend's Honda S2000 and my old modded Talon TSi AWD.

good times...I miss driving

I hit the fuel shutoff on both the Focus (172km/h) and took an old Escort up to ~170 on the 407 with *zero* traffic around.

To effectively draft off a bus or truck you would need to be so close to it that it may not be the smartest move either.

hands free speeding in a tank...fun stuff, lol.

before anyone starts crying...this is all done without much, or any, traffic (at least on my part).

speeding when you're 'endangering' only yourself is one thing...as we all take our own risks...but fucking around with other cars on the road is just dumb.

thats if you drive a god damn echo... don't forget you're also going faster, which cuts your the time you use your car.

On my car I notice that at 100kmh its just above 2000 rpm, at 120kmh, its not touching 2400 rpm... this means its still effecient to drive at 120kmh

Roads in Germany, the autobahn in particular, are in much better condition, for one, and for two, drivers there are generally better trained and know the rules of the road. How many people here will you see completely hogging left lanes, and passing on the right. Cruise outside of the bigger urban areas, where the big highways become two late only, and how many will STILL hog left lanes, and absolutely refuse to move into the right, even when there may be no other cars, or the traffic flow is going at their same speed. Honestly, if we had a stretch of highway with no speed limit, I would think the only people you would find there for the first little while (until enough people died that is) would be cocky arrogant teenage drivers, and cocky arrogant men. Do I want to share a fast lane with people of that calibre...probably not.

At the same time, I refuse to believe people in Germany are somehow better drivers by nature. If a bunch of Germans can be taught to drive properly on the highways, why can't a bunch of Canadians? Is there something we're lacking that the Germans have?
