But there's one advantage to Trance that all great composers didn't have: the electronic age makes it possible to develop an unlimited variety of timbres (sounds if you will), which leads me to say that trance has much more potential then classical music ever will. Imagine classical masterpieces being performed with the sound from 'Human Evolution - Human Evolution' (unbelievable timbre, if you ask me); I think we'll see highly evolved trance in our lifetime, don't you guys? It's just waiting for that first genius producer that has music writing capabilities as the great composers, but produces it as trance. We haven't seen half of trance yet.

Ok, I'm sure that people might disagre with me, but I believe trance will never get to the complexity of classical. I love trance and am a trance DJ and producer, but still, classical is a whole different animal. Trance *can* be more emotional and sure as hell makes me move like nothing else, but classical is generaly more "fulfilling" to listen to.

That having been said, I believe there is one genre of modern dance music that can compete with classical in terms of complexity, etc: GOA/PSY-TRANCE!!

More often than not, *proper* goa can blow the roof off classical in terms of complexity. When I say proper, I do not mean people like Yahel (still good producer though) or Spacetribe. I mean Hallucinogen (Twisted/Lone Deranger era), early Astral Projection (Trist In Trance), early Infected Mushroom (Gathering). Actually, check out "Classical Mushroom" for a combination of goa and classical, which is a totally minblowing listen. Back on the complexity bit, I swear I can count dozens upon dozens of layered sounds in any given Hallucinogen/Simon Posford production. And as far as emotion goes, goa has just as wide a range as trance and classical. Someone mentioned that trance producers don't go into the studio with definite ideas as classical composers did. Well, goa producers do just that. If you start just messing with the gear to make a goa track, it'll sound like utter shit, as one must make sure to keep the many layers in harmony. Producing (good) goa is a very demanding and challanging task, very much similiar, IMHO, to composing a proper classical piece. Had Simon Posford been born during the Baroque era, we'd be listening to him instead of Bach. And had Mozart or even Tchaikovsky been alive during our times, their talents would have been most greatly manifested in psychedelic trance.

And before anyone flames me or says I'm full of it, I implore you to give the aforementioned goa productions a listen.

chopin isnt classical music.. he's of the romantic period. i hate it when people call bach and chopin classical.. bach is BAROQUE...

and i agree on the psy trance thing, that stuff really IS intelligent

and classical music would have to seriously evolve (obviously impossible NOW) to incorporate any kind of synth realistically..

of course, all it takes is the next mozart. and dont you dare call james holden mozart or liszt.

Goa / Psytrance is awesome!

although I don't think it is as complex as great classical, CDs like Hallucinogen - Twisted have amazing depth.

I think a genius Goa producer, with the time and skill, could make a "Symphony" of sorts, that would rival any classical.

the thing with Goa, is either brilliant, or really really shitty. Goa needs to keep being complex, and not conform.

I've always thought classical pieces would convert well into trance. The Ferry Corsten of Barber and Ravel are great songs, IMHO.

Yes, but adagio and pavane for a dead child aren't really the most complex of pieces... (I'm not implying that they aren't good). I'm playing those two in band right now (what a coincidence lol) and you can't even begin to compare them in terms of complexity to some of mozart's work...

True, but just like how most people refer to trance and jungle and breaks ect... as "techno" everyone classifies the barouque, rennasance, and classical, and modern eras as just "classical".
