comments suggestions?

The Sonys are nice, but after a few hours their sheer weight can start to hurt your neck. If you are moving around a bit this shouldn't be too much of an issue though. I'm used to sitting still at a computer for hours with them.

Also their cord is nice and long, which helps if you are moving around.

Sound quality is excellent.

Can't comment on that particular model of Sennheiser because the only pair I've ever owned is the HD-25s.

If you can afford the Sony headphones, I wouldn't buy the HD280's, although I would buy Senns.

Sennheiser HD25 headphones are, put simply, the best headphones for the price.

Sony headphones tend to colour the sound and although they sound nice and bright and a big clear bass, the sennheiser overall give a more 'true' representation of what the music actually sounds like.

The Grado headphones, especially the 60's for the value they offer, are stunning, but a bit cumbersome and not really the most portable for taking out and about.

the right answer is go to a place and pick the ones that feel the best and sound good to you.

Most of the replies disregarded the fact he wants them for home listening not djing. So I'd recommend an open air headphone that allows air flow that aren't as hot and less ear damage.

I'd lean towards Sennheisers, they're a little more fragile but more comfortable. This shouldn't be an issue for home use.
