Never ask someone what they made at their last job. That information is confidential, and competent professionals know their market value, regardless of pay history. Maybe they made more than that, maybe less - it really doesn't matter.

If you don't want to put out even a ballpark figure, that's fine, but keep in mind that most people will assume your reluctance is due to a below-market pay scale.
