Though with digital technology there are other doors that are open to you.

besides, vinyls are so expensive, like 15 bucks per release, when the same release on beatport is under 5. tough choice huh? Whats the cost of CD's? pocket change ! sure the sound quality is better coming from a vinyl, but the difference is so marginal...its like comparing a well encoded Mp3 to Wav or Ogg, you really will barely notice it.

CDJ's will not be replaced by laptops, they'll just be used in conjunction with laptops more often as people learn to adapt with them. i fucking hated traktor, now that i've adapted to it traktor + CDJ's is the better than sliced bread to me. But my preferences dont necessarily speak for the status quo. like Evan said, going digital opens more doors, especially when you're restricted by income to purchase another cd player.

it can get easier... if clubs have an input source for memory keys, you could just play your songs of that... same concept as cds, but different medium.

don't think anyone would rather carry around a CD wallet than a tiny memory key...

with stuff like Ableton, yes, you loose the act of beat matching by ear, but then you gain endless possibilities in performance... live mashups, PAs, infinite FX, etc.

imo it adds to the experience when the performer actually uses the features. the only time i have a problem with laptop mixing is when the dj uses it as if its a normal turntable and ignore all the features. the technology shouldn't be used as a lazy mans way out.

Sam The Record Man focused mostly on CDs and mainstream shoppers...and well...most mainstream music shoppers arn't interested in vinyl (or CDs anymore for that matter).

2theBeat was a whole different story. It didn't close due to lack of vinyl sales. In fact, vinyl sales were up. It was actually 2theBeat digital, the mp3 downloads, that were not profiting. Really though, 2theBeat closed due to the owner's personal reasons.

As far as spinning with vinyl–I love it and wouldn't want to switch. Vinyl is more tactile imo and provides a different DJing expereince. Also, I rarely know the name of the song I'm spinning, I know what the label looks like (I prefer it this way because I'm a very visual person).

Mixing with vinyl is truely an art.
And if enough people love vinyl then it won't die

That's how I learned to spin, and I'm grateful for my russian friend for getting me started. It's a much more intimate way to play music then through CDs or Ableton. I admit it's almost time to pick up a Serato box...

I've seen record stores online like This one in California or This one from Birmingham, ordering from these places is altogether cheaper then me taking the train or driving downtown to a record shop, buying, then going home. That includes shipping.

I'll admit, there's no better way to spend a saturday then to get up, grab a coffee, smoke a joint, then chill in a record store for a couple hours listening to vinyls until I get too hungry...
