i don't know if anybody has said this before but just get rane serato scratch, final scratch, or torq. You can then use two vinyl turntable or cdjs depending on what the setup the club has...never will you worry about being unprepared...

and if you decide to get rane or whatever, then i would grab two turntables and a cdj-100. that way you have two turntables to get a feel of how they work...and then a cdj-100 so you understand how to use the cue system in a cd player...two quality turntables is a lot cheaper than two quality cd players...hence why i suggest this option.

I voted CD's. Even though, I started on vinyl and still use vinyl decks, I've moved onto serato scratch due to the overwhelming price per vinyl, plus difficulty getting new tracks locally.

I'll eventually move onto CD decks, but for right now I'm quite content with where I'm at.

CD without a doubt.

It's a lot easier to keep DJ'ing even if it's just a hobby if you go CD because of the price difference between vinyl and digital.

Usually digital is 2$ at max for MP3 while vinyl is several dollars above that and can go to the 20's+ if you're looking for a track that's rare.

I never minded the feel, I just wanted to learn how to fucking get from point A to point B with mixing, so I basically screwed the whole religious vinyl notion many people experience.

It's up to you, if you want the best of both worlds, go Serato.

But a few facts stand.

  • Buying tracks digitally and on CDs is a much cheaper option than buying vinyl, which leaves a lot more money for some sweet ass equipment.
  • Taking a box of vinyl to a club is a bitch! CDs are much more portable.
  • Getting tracks when you want them then and there is much easier with CD
  • With CDs it is easier to have backups of all your tracks
  • Vinyl for many though, is a lot more fun
  • And just because... Many 'big' DJs use CDs

That is just a short list of a few facts that I think stand out.

There is heaps more about it if you search.

Agreed 100%. I'd go with CDJ's if I were you just because of the facts listed above. It'll be cheaper in the end because you won't have to start buying tons of vinyls, and in the end I think you'd be much happier. CDJ's have a vinyl mode, too
