Yes you're correct in that they're the same fraction, but 6/8 has a totally different rhythm to it.

Using capital letters for emphasis, 3/4 is:
ONE Two three

Whereas 6/8 is:
ONE Two three Four five six

6/8 has more of a flowing feel to it...

Hope this helps

reminds me of my music classes in high school..
from what i remember there is a 2/3 beat too, which is a waltz.

thanks for clearingme upo on it, i feel much more knowledgable now

I'm sure that trance in 3/4 and 6/8 does exist, however you're never going to hear it in a liveset, it would be impossible to beatmix in...

Wouldn't mind hearing some though .. if you want an interesting track try the one full of triplets in Tiesto's Mysteryland 99 set .. I think it's called Nunca - House of Doom.

"In the house, in the house y'all."

The ones who like guitars would be happy to listen to Haldolium - One of these Day - Classical 3/4 track with very energetic guitars based on Pink Floyed's song.

Check this one out and tell me what u think.

It's been a while since high school band, but if I recall correctly, 3/4 and 6/8 are not the same at all, as far as the style goes.

3/4 has three distinct emphasized beats per measure.
6/8 has two emphasized beats with the two following beats less pronounced. It can also be written as 2/4 times, with each beat being a triplet. I actually played a song once that switched between 2/4 and 6/8 time quite a bit, with the 2/4 time using triplets and 6/8 using eigth notes, and it had exactly the same effect.

As far as dance music goes, I think 3/4 would be very difficult to dance to, because the First beat of each measure is emphasized, while in 4/4 the first and third beat are emphasized, and since you have two feet, and usually alternate, you would wind up all twisted up.

6/8 on the other hand would be very easy to dance to. It has two distinctive beats 1 & 4, with 23 and 56 being less pronounced.

Yeah I know whatcha mean, 3/4 will be a hell hard to dance to

I'm actually working on a 3/4 track right now... Sounds cool but more for listening...

6/8 is very coooool to dance to If U had the chance to even dance some track like Balloon - Monstersound or Brooklyn Bounce - Bass, Beats & Melody U know the power of it and that's why I want a quality 6/8 track... Once again I'll strongly recommend -

Miss Thunderpussy vs. Club Invaders - Mirage

Scot Project - O (Overdrive) is not 3/4. It still has the 4/4 kick drum but contains crazyily off-beat snares and bass.

Scot Project - O (Overdrive) = 6/8 (Thirds on 4/4 I guess)

The Arome remix is 4/4 with offbeat bass-kinda-sound...
