Oh, and I think that Beatport are right fucking cocks for writing this...

Hippy ideals? Maybe, but the fact is unlike techno, drum & bass or house, trance creates a direct emotional response in the right environment.

You have to have some sort of emotional response in order to get up and dance, so I guess at Techno, DnB and House nights the crowd just sits on the floor with their legs crossed and stares into oblivion.

The Unfold Mix Cd was outstanding, the greatest trance mix cd in a long long time. It wasn't even all that much psy anyways.

Armin and Tiesto and A&B and the like fun and I'm sure they can rock a club with the best of them but J00F is really the only trance DJ worth paying attention to these days IMO.

Agree with the man.

Especially the part about the names that producers used to choose. Nowadays everybody wants in under his own name.

+1 that comment was rediculous. In fact I've been more entranced at prog/techno nights than I ever was at a trance night, without drugs too.

Look, I agree with him when he talks about trance becoming formulaic, about people concentrating on vocals and riffs and breakdowns and the like in a particular order everytime, but as someone who has earned every little bit of respect he has in the right way, I fail to understand why every single interview of his reeks of his apparent hatred for current 'trance' music. If he hasnt been bothered to jump on the bandwagon like the others he mentions, or produce one top40 track now and then for the moolah, or be generic and copy-pastic everytime, then why in hell is he so constantly and consistently bothered about how the trance scene is? How does it make a difference to him?

Besides, he said it himself that it was called trance because it made you feel as if you were in a trance, took you on a trip etc etc, so how is it necessary that only the music he likes does it for everyone?

@Idoru
Whether you like his music or not (I for the most part don't), but you have to agree when he says SVD is original. He comes up with absolute garbage as Direkt Dizko and Grasshopper but it IS original.

I have enormous respect for JOOF, as a producer and for his label, and one of the things I love most about him is his I give a fuck for anyone else. Pretty rare in today's trance scene. So John, give a fuck for how the present state of trance is. Do your thing.
Cheers.

Fair play to JOOF for saying what everyone already knows but the bottom line is the generic and formulaic stuf he talks about still churns out REAL quality all the time if you look in the right places.

That being said JOOF is right in about 80% hes saying for me

Because when you have something great that you love (or once loved), naturally you don't want to see it getting raped the way it is.

I agree with the j00f.
