No shit.....

how bizarre... maybe we're the only three people in adelaide who like trance, hence we're all here.

Oh yeah... nice loop

Man, there's a collective of people who like trance, but most of them are frigid when it comes to posting on forums or online... Matt Darey came and played recently, not sure if you were there, and he pretty much filled out old black cat.

I'm more keen that everyone here is posting about producing tech trance! Must be something to do with adelaide or the weather or something

its all in the layering, one sound or sample will sound weak...but when its layered with multiple sounds you will get a lot more depth in ur percusion. Just because each sound will use a different frequency so it fills the spectrum a lot better.
hope it helps

Disagree 100%

By the way, the plugin you're pitching is a multieffect... it will include all the things you just said not to use, in a canned ready-to-use format.

It's not trance man. In trance you use delays and reverb to fill space. In techno you can't afford to do that much because it turns the mix to mud. I mean this is assuming we're talking about bongo mania techno. Less rythmically complex styles of techno obviously don't apply

EDIT: You need to remember, we're talking about the sample he posted here, which has none of those things... I'm sure there are cases where you can get away with it.

Would that be Camelphat that you are referring to?

If it is then no. Camelphat doesn't have reverb, doesn't have delay, it does have a flanger but this is off by default. So it doesn't include all the things he said not to use. Camelphat's main attributes are its distortion effects and its filters (which used with the LFO's can give great results).

Camelphat is great for techy percussion...

Maybe you're getting mixed up with Camelspace..?

I think all of this advice is terrible. Randy Katana, Divini and Warning, even sometimes Richard Durand and a few others have this very specific type of percussion that carries with a few specific characteristics that are pretty hard to describe. It's sort of sounds like a traditional drum set, but with a sort of semi-trancey sound, but it isn't hard trance in the sense of doof doof, but rather hard because of the actual noises in question and the style and way they're put together. If anybody can actually recreate the percussion from 4LB, Abel ramos - te quiero puta (divini and warning remix), Ron van den Beuken - Access (Randy Katana remix), or other songs I'd actually give them a medal . Very few artists actually have this percussion sound, if you listen to the last of those songs I even question what one of the noises is in itself.. End rant

its freaking easy...if your talking about katana style... pay close attention to the pitch of the percussion samples... i'd make it for you but i dont care to much for a medal. also dont worry about 'what' the sound is...could be anything..or a combination of some stuff to make a special percussion sound...what it is is no big deal..... most of katana's percussion is actually very simple. the fact that he keeps it simple makes it nice and cleanalot of his percussion now a days is actually just the same as house. maybe listen to some house if your having problems
