I'm not saying that it's the public's fault at all, but that what happened to her is a result of the mechanism that is celebrity.

Michael Jackson is a tremendous talent, but being in the public eye from the age of what, five? has caused him to be robbed of the normal growing process that takes place during early years.

Lindsay Lohan is the same way.

When you are forced into the media at a young age you are put into situations that are not beneficial to your development. While kids should be acting freely, and innocently they are instead forced to do specific things, attend specific events and act in a specific way.

They are not given the chance to make mistakes and learn from them.

That is why Lindsay Lohan crashes cars.

These kind of things will continue to occur indefinately until a judge gets fed up and REALLY throws the book at someone. 3 months in a real prison, multiple year suspension etc...

I know If I get caught and convicted of a D.U.I. (and this is just caught without an accident/crash)...

1 yr suspension, 1yr ingnition interlock, mandatory alcohol regabilitation.

2 conviction is mandatory 2 weeks in jail
yr suspension

not including fines.

MUCH WORSE if their is a collision.

Make the penalties SOOO COSTLY that the people who can afford chaufer's/taxi's actually USE them.

BTW...It is sad, but what a hypocrite....Lindsay crying about how no one believes she is 'sober' so she wears an anklet to prove her sobriety....that lasted long.

I'm not in their shoes so maybe it doesn't work, but if they have so much trouble coping with the public eye, or can't control themselves around the circle of friends FLY SOMEWHERE far away.

Also agree that it doesn't help that the they are humiliated publically. These famous rich KIDS clearly need rehabilitation before they ruin their opportunities like the Coreys did.

Kristin Dunsdt
Justin Timberlake
Christina Aguilera
Eddie Muniz (malcolm in the middle guy)

all seem to be doing well for child stars.
Wondering which category Daniel Radclife (Harry Potter) will fall in.

Constant interaction with the media robs kids of the growing up process that is necessary to go through if they want to become fully functioning human beings.

It is tragic to see the pieces fall apart, but the problem is not Lindsay Lohan making bad decisions. The problem is the obsession with celebrity that creates the constant attention these kids get.

I agree with all the examples except for Paris Hilton she hasn't done a thing in her life except that Simple Life show other than that shes famous for drinking, dating and partying and her name, correct me if im wrong.

Lindsay needs to straighten out shes too hot to blow her career now besides(the ladies are gonna hate me)
we still haven't seen her first nude scene yet i mean come on!

If her parents fail to teach her the basics of good and bad, no matter what life situation Lohan lived through, well, fuck. She's an adult. Doubt she's stupid to be not able to learn from her mistakes.

You choose the action, you have chosen the consequences.

Life's tough, get used to it, Ms Lohan.

She probably needs a good beating to get it through her head that DUI is NOT fun

I feel sorry for Lindsay Lohan it is obvious that she is not happy and will be dealing with the problems of a robbed childhood for the rest of her life.

How backwards is our world when what is aspirational is celebrity, and celebrity is this toxic.

Ideally I would agree with most of your points, except for the fact that there are an equal amount of celebrities who have NOT had serial offences of drunk driving and possession of narcotics (11 days out of rehab no less).

I don't think it's fair to say Lindsay is 'forced' into the media. She seems to quite enjoy her place there (same for Paris Hilton). And people who seek the spotlight - it becomes an all or nothing experience. She can't expect the public to praise all her work-related success and turn a blind eye to the rest of her life (as convenient as that would be).

I will agree that it is unfair of them to go through such public scrutiny - but hey that's the short end of the straw of the life you have chosen to lead. If anything, I would think that the constant media attention would be incentive to get her shit together - obviously not the case. Sure everyone makes mistakes, and everyone should have an opportuntity to learn from them. But just because you're a celebrity should this entitle you to 1400 chances to get it right? I don't think the same favour would be tolerated for a non-celebrity.

And she was given a chance to learn from her mistakes - a 45-day stint in Rehab that I don't think any non-celebrity could afford doing. Lots of people learn from their mistakes without the security net she had. It swings both ways.

The embarrassment of this happening to her I cannot even fathom, and bottom line it was HER choice - no paparrazzo forced her into her SUV drunk and with cocaine. Hopefully this time she can actually get it together. Someone needs to take a page from Drew Barrymore's book of life.

I am not arguing that this happens every single time, but just that this is the cause of what is happening, not her bad decision making. She can't make bad decisions because she doesn't know what's right from wrong because she has lost her childhood.

There certainly are celebrities who are happy, and young stars who turn out ok, but what needed to take place to let that happen was that the people had the parenting to force the media out of the picture enough to let the child grow.

It is possible, but you are walking on thin ice, that's all that I am saying.

I would agree with you in saying that her parents are totally useless, and probably a significant factor in her (lack of) behaviour.
