i and i'm sure others could of easily told you that by initially looking at the flyer. i'm always wondering...who are these guys and why do they get to play. you said it though...it's who you know, the politics of djing. it's the same EVERYWHERE.
there are few instances where people actually listen to the demos/live mixes and feel that it will bring quality to an evening.

They played anthem huh. I believe that song plays at like 137 - 138. I bet it sounded like shit being played below 130.
Every E-mail we recieved from tiesto's manager; no matter what it said they always had the statement in there saying No tiesto musuc and Not over 130 bpm.
I guess if he was a dick down there may have been caused by the opening dj's not following instructions given by his management staff.

I can understand the whole no Tiesto music before his slot, and 130bpm... but I wouldnt get too anal over the tempo. I've had to follow DJs who we're banging it out at 138 with the dancefloor empty and completely start my set from scratch both times I played at Eternal Nightclub in 2005 for Acosta and Nu NRG. Its a pain in the ass..but if you a good dj, you improvise..and turn shit around.
If its the managements logic that by playing under 130 is going to make the crowd like Tiesto's set anymore than the openers...that's pretty naive. Dave and I kept our set right at 128ish and well..I won't say whose set most people said they prefered.
On the other hand, when I opened for Ferry Corsten in March of 06, I followed off Dave's set and toward the last 30 minutes the tempo was nearing 134ish. Ferry came into the booth dancing and I asked him if I should slow it down a tad and was ready to turn em over to him, his response was like "Dude, I can play right off of this" (Luke Dzerdek - Echo was playing). I took may hat off to him as I had played the more hard hitting progressive/electro house I had at the time and Ferry proceeded to decmimate the place.
My point being, in my opinion,...a GOOD dj will never let a piss-poor opener ruin their set. If the opener sucks, let their last track play all the way out, wait 2-3 seconds, start fresh with a good opening track your sound. If the opener was great, no problems, mix away.
