As for accommodation, there's a Holiday Inn right next to the event hall. But you're right, if you're staying for five days you'll be better off in the centre. Public transportation will get you to Flanders Expo in no time anyway.

Theres one infamous street called 'overpoortstraat' that is always packed with students going out. Its just one pub afteranother and they are open till like .. well 7 8 'o clock... so no worries

Thats if you just want to get drunk and dont mind the crappy music

Although i have to mention Decadance over there which plays techno and prog, and prolly electro etc... No trance though. Tonight for instance, Eelke Kleijn is coming.

Other recommendations: Club Tijuana and the loungebar limonada, whichare very close one to another, near the "Korenmarkt".

Brussels may be more expensive than New York. In my experience (having lived in New York and having family in Brussels), it was about the same. The exchange rate is now 1.39 which means Brussels is probably considerably more expensive.

One can never predict in this global warming era, but in that time of the year it normally won't be freezing yet, not even at night. It will most likely be quite rainy and windy though, so I'd make sure to pack a good coat. But you won't be needing snowboots and gloves

I initially wanted to do something like that. I would have preferred to fly into Berlin and stay for a bit, then take a train into Belgium. I suppose I still could. I haven't booked my flights yet .. .. but to be honest, with this being my first time outside of the US/Canad, I'm pretty nervous about hopping from place to place without any problems . Hmm, just looked at flight prices. It's about the same price flying into Brussels and flying into Berlin. Maybe I'll reconsider my options .. .

you shouldn't be too worried about hoping around from place to place. i took trains from austria to brussels two years ago the day after it snowed 3 feet overnight and we got there on time with no issues. and i don't speak any german. it's super easy to get around in europe.

All right. I'll most likely be booking my flights sometime next week. I'm going to shoot for flying into Berlin, then taking a train into Brussels. Anyone know how much that will cost me, and also how long the train ride is?? I figure I'll leave Berlin on Saturday (10 Nov), check into a hotel in Ghent, then head over to ILT unless there's some time to spare..
