come on guys, give the lady a proper answer. I'd suggest it depends on what you want out of things. Mac's aren't compatible with some stuff you may want/need, and windows can be a bitch to run other things.

Re: mac vs pcy
just one point i have to add that i am surprised no one mentioned yet. what is the actual purpose for a cd burner for a student other than backing up data and making cds? if you want to save documents, you don't want to have cd-rws. Thumbdrives ftw here.

i am not a mac basher. i am not a pc basher. i do know that mac is good for certain things, and pc is good for certain things. If you want a mac, it's cool, but you should be aware of certain software to have to be applicable with pc users such as (mac users can correct me or add to the list):
*Safari / Opera for webbrowsing
*Adium for instant messaging
*OpenOffice for word processing
I am sure the most frequent types of files being passed back and forth are picture files, document type files, and media files. If you're sending out executables to a mac user, that user is basically screwed.
Any mac users want to give their testimonies for/against thumbdrive/external device mounting on a mac os? i can't really say much about that, because i am a windows/linux hybrid guy. i guess that is important in the future.
i guess that covers "the good the bad and the ugly".
