it's not going to be an easy decision, but you have to do what's best for your pet.
We lost my wife's dog a couple of years ago. he was a bit off colour for a while, the vets said it was minor things, a few pills, then we went to a new vet who said it was cancer and he's not got long. Was very hard. knowing we did the right thing did not make it any easier to say goodbye.
I've got two 12 year old huskies now and am not looking forward to when their time comes, but make the most of the time I have with them now.

Our cat is heading down that road. He's gotten damned skinny and won't eat much and barely drinks any water (which he needs to help his poor digestive tract). He's also pretty much blind and he eyes are cloudy and constantly dialated, and we have to give him medicine to help reduce the pain from his palsy. He's not bad enough to warrant putting down just yet, but I wouldn't give him much longer than a year. He'll at least have lived a good 15 years before he dies. I'm just glad it didn't happen when I was younger, because he's our first pet and I don't think I would have been able to deal with it back then.
