I looked at SSL, and it looks like a very solid product and a great option. I just thought that the portability of something like the Xponent or the VCI-100 would be handy if a man wanted to throw down some tunes at a buddy's house whilst consuming a few beers. Of course I have no idea how easy it would be to transition from vinyl to the platters on such a device.

It wouldn't be any harder than switching over to CDJs really. Yes the Xponent does not feel exactly the same as an 800/1000, but it's the same general idea that shouldn't hinder you more in any way.

cant believe no one has mentioned traktor. sound quality is completely shit through the torq software. incredible through traktor. just download the traktor keymap file and your away.

the xponent wont work on xpsp3 which caught me out. but once you set it on xpsp2 or vista its rock solid. all this crashing is people trying to run it through a shite pc. you have to know a good bit about pcs to set it up properly because "out of the box setup" is laughable.

I'm comfortable enough around a Windows based PC. The day job involves maintaining a small, 25-node Windows network via Active Directory, so I should have the requisite skill set.

Also, I'm assuming that any modern laptop should have enough hardware (dual core CPU, 2GB of RAM) to run these mixing programs, right?

32-bit Vista drivers, but with anything Microsoft, your mileage may vary.
