I think the only genres I have pretty much consistently held a middle finger to are Gabber and Happy Hardcore. 99% of that shit is just really bad noise.

Well I think that's where you run into a problem, or at least I do - is tribal an easily defined genre, or is it just an idea that can be applied to a fairly diverse array of sounds?

For me, the idea of tribal house had more to do with the overall sound of sets rather than a specific criteria to measure a production against.

While there are clearly some tunes that individuals will say are definitively "tribal," I think there are an infinite number more tunes with tribal influences - and that muddy area bothers me, because one mans tribal could be another mans techno in rare cases.

So I guess when I say I find "tribal" boring, it has far more to do with the idea of a tribal set from years back than it does with any specific productions.

As far as D&B goes, montana has done a good job in tracking down and recommending some stuff that has grown on me quite a bit - but again, there's such a diverse array of sounds there, and most of what I seem to enjoy isn't very drum or bass heavy, so what the hell does that even mean then?
