I'd imagine it's definately good to get in the habit of doing your keying by ear, mucking around with a keyboard and overlaying compatible chords etc. But Rapid Evolution is very useful for beginners who (think they) know nothing about music and don't want to be overwhelmed at the beginning. Once you've used RE2 and done some harmonically mixed sets the next step is to buy that midi keyboard and start learning. Nothing like a great night of mixing to get you enthusiastic about learning more.
Yes I did. I have yet to buy my first decks . So far just software mixed using Traktor aided by Rapid Evolution, but that's been enough encouragement for me to start exploring the music theory already, although I do have some background in playing the piano, from high school days though. I've already played a pre-recorded mix at a friends party and they liked it, and I really have very little music theory knowledge, and yet I could harmonically mix with the aid of RE2. Now I'm keen to learn more.
My paragraph was simply encouragement for beginners. I'm a firm believer that anyone can do anything, and I mean anything, they want to do in this world, especially now in the age of the internet where all the information you could ever want on just about anything is available for free .
