I have the same mixer, and asked the same question a couple of months ago. I thought there couldnt be that many reasons for using a 4 channel mixer, but it seems there are.

It works if you don't mind ghetto rigging

Then your main out changes your recording level... suitable in a home environment, but not exactly very flexible. Things work out a whole lot easier with a fixed-level recording output

There's many ways to make things work the way you want it, but at the ~500 price range, I expect more flexibility.

$500? That's about £250 - I personally wouldn't expect a lot for that! Although I know you get a lot more bang for your buck your side of the pond.
