No, speed is amphetamine.
For whatever reason, the methyl ring seems to potentiate the effects... so 10 mg of methamphetamine might provide similar effects to 25 mg of amphetamine, though honestly we don't really know how or why these things work the way they do (and that's not even getting into the fact that there are different effects derived from the same compounds based on their different stereochemistries and mixtures thereof).
It's like the difference between vicodin and morphine... same drug, different intensity. All stimulants are similar, with certain differences... there's a reason caffeine is the number one most used (abused?) drug in America: it vibes with American work ethic.
So basically, if you've done speed, you have an idea of what crystal is like, the same way if you've had caffeine you understand a little bit of what amphetamines will possibly entail... I would personally consider amphetamine to be superior to caffeine in essentially every way, for both recreational and non-recreational use. Having fun is okay, but knowing your proper dosages that work for you (not too little, not too insanely much) is vital else you'll just blow your tolerance through the roof and ruin your life, the same as an alcoholic.
Technically, methamphetamine is less "toxic" than amphetamine and methylphenidate (ritalin), and though all three are prescribed by doctors for certain reasons, methamphetamine (though safest in prescribed dosages, believe it or not) is the least commonly prescribed due to the stigma.
Though in the second quarter of the 20th century the opposite was true: methamphetamine was prescribed for everything from depression to the common cold.
Anyway, sorry for the long post, but information and education is key to staying safe and living a healthy and fun life.
